iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Here is our first episode in the series how to do some fun things in the Cloud!

Also some videos from oracle themselves about doing this, though I believe they are a tad out of date: go.oracle.com/LP=130955 Because oracle actually *encourages this* for some reason.

And as they note, it doesn't cost anything as long as you stay within the "always free" limits, but if you don't attach a credit card, it can take a while to get a server allocated. Idk the current availability, but for a while it got pretty tight.

github.com/StephanAkker... I believe this is the guide I used the most while setting up my server back when I actually ran minecraft on it. You can stop at the part where they setup Pterodactyl Panel and just install tranquil instead. :3

let me pull up the details. fair warning, it's a bit of a trek, and doesn't always come up first try (they have a limited pool)

yeee. been using it for a bit now. Thank you for the work on it! :3

Big company in the computer space. Made a database people generally didn't like that much. oh, also owns Java technically, though no one uses that version anymore. Basically a relic of computers that is still kinda relevant in the server space, and gives away free servers to keep people reminded.

well, if you wanna know a secret... There's places that will host servers for (technically) free, if you know how to convince them. :3 One even has a whole guide about how to host a minecraft server for free. The only downside? It's Oracle. Is what I use to forward all my stuff.

It's a docker container, so technically can be run on windows, but you do want it running somewhere that is on 24/7, as your posts are actually stored there, so they have to be reachable. Also needs to be exposed to the internet, not just connected.

Not a one-button thing, but is far easier to get going than bsky's reference install.

tranquil.farm/tranquil-pds

ah. In that case, I just run Tranquil PDS on my own domain. It runs as a Docker container that I point my domain to (faeranne.com) and then I transfered all my account data to that. Once there, it acts just like a normal bsky account. tangled.org/tranquil.far...

Probably should have written "you *will be* able to host your account yourself". Got a bit eager there with the future. hehe

So a "You *can* do this technically" but not yet a "This is as simple to do as bsky".

For Fluxer? I believe the process will be the same, and they have the parts *there*. they're just... still working on the final touches. My understanding is that the underlying system exists, and someone could make a client that just works, they're just still in the process of writing that.

on bsky, or on fluxer? Bsky you host what's called a PDS. Easy to switch over, though if you don't have experience with command line, it helps to find someone with some knowledge and either work with them or have them show you the ropes (I can if you want :3)
