Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 12/08/2026We shouldn’t necessarily be covering streams to do grids. 000
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 19/07/2026Meanwhile, neighbouring Burnaby retains a mass of uncontrolled crossings used by the same railroad because it prioritized amassing a surplus rather than building up amenities and improving infrastructure for the longest time. 010
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 19/07/2026The end result is have-not provinces and municipalities don’t see improvements at their crossings unless there’s sufficient political pressure or a provincial program comes along. New Westminster secured a ton of its crossings in an effort to make its cohabitation with railways more… livable. 110
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 16/07/2026If you came out west, you could see multiple variants of this where clean coastal winds come into conflict with the smoke coming from the canyons. Here’s a horizontal one that kinda follows the would-be snow line. 010
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 14/07/2026It’s rain-shadowed canyons with very desert-like vegetation. Highest temperatures in BC but relatively sparsely populated outside Kamloops and Kelowna. Own pictures 2017/2026. 130
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 15/06/2026Oh the article has it translated but it was this. It’s insanely poor MTBF. 110
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 13/06/2026I was always surprised by how little mechanical work was involved for these. I also saw the way highway medians are textured by hand and how much attention to detail is put on the asphalt’s outline. It makes for beautiful infrastructure, but it seems highly inefficient as a use of labour. 000
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 20/05/2026Really no. They still build them like they did 40 years ago. 110
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 03/05/2026This might not be the best example as they do both here, but the balconies are essentially sunrooms with sidling glass panels and the only conditioning you’ll find in the space is a gas fire pit and a fan, similar to most sheltered patios. 010

Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 12/04/2026The implication I’m getting from this thread is that P means a vent per drain, it’s not the case. There is a requirement that vents be above the drain (unless you want drainage issues). Sometimes that means the addition of a vent in site depending on the layout. Basic Euro and US diagrams here. 100

Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 04/04/2026As far as gas consumption, in spite of the fact we could do a lot better than we are, that's currently the "fleet average" 010
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 04/04/2026There's a big story about sales steering into CUVs as the outcome of CAFE and some evidence of that lies in the HR-V vs. Civic Hatch in Canada. There's also just... preference from an in/egress standpoint (aging pop) and lifestyle. CUVs cover so many bases. 130
Alex Potvin @alexpotvin.com · 04/04/2026The F-Series sales combines all non F-150 variants, which includes a lot of fleet sales. The F-Series ranges from the 150 to the 750 (pic) currently. Toyota would do it combining some nameplates (Matrix, Corolla) into one data point to inflate the plate's sales. It's all dick measuring. 150
