I have found him distasteful since he wrote that song for the Hobbit movie and wrote the line: "And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke Keep watching over Durin's sons" The line should be Durin's folk. It sounds better AND that's what dwarves are called. I'm finally vindicated.

Years ago I listened to some fantasy book where the reader kept pronouncing the phrase "short-lived"( as in "a brief moment") like short-lived as in "doesn't live very long" and it drove me so nuts I bought the paperback.

For real. The Appalachian Mountains are older than THE FUCKING RINGS OF SATURN. They're not just "older than the trees" (which in this case is literal) They're old on the geological timescale. Older than arguably one of the defining features of our *solar system*.
