Hey composers, what if you could host a stunning demo reel that actually converts — with built-in call booking and automated follow-ups — all in one place? 👀 I’ve been working on something that might just change the game.

Many composers in a nutshell: No, I don't care learning about correct self-promotion and marketing, I prefer to do it wrong and if it doesn't work, it's probably my music not being good enough.

Whenever you question yourself about not finding work as a music composer, check your demo reel or website and analyze how often it is about you you you ... and not about the benefits that you bring to the table for your client!

Oh so right. You don't need to be the best out there. You need to understand your clients, write solid music, make them happy and getting paid 😊

Typical argument of music composers: The market is so saturated, it doesn't make sense anymore. See it from this perspective: 99% of people are lazy! Be consistent in your networking and build long-term relationships instead of going for the quick buck, then you have the biggest advantage ever!

Music composers still thinking the best method for a demo reel is: - playlists with tons of tracks - long video medleys - long text bios - listing all gear and awards - links to every social network - contact forms - using YouTube or SoundCloud ... but still no project in sight? 🤔

10. I would also strengthen my self-confidence and stop listening to bs advice and negative shit from people telling me that the market is saturated and that there are billions of composers so it all doesn't make sense anymore because ...

9. Once I am good enough I would start selling exclusive music and/or trying to get into my dream career as, for example, a video game composer.
110
Alex Pfeffer @alexpfeffer.bsky.social · 16/01/2025
8. Also I would have a bit of time every day to expand my knowledge and skills by learning about arranging, orchestration, mixing etc.

7. From my first few bucks I would expand my studio and buy more necessary and sense-making gear.

6. Consistently reach out to as many people and companies as possible offering them the services to craft exclusive and coinvincing corporate identity logos starting at least at 1000 EUR.

3. Write a few jingles that can function as audio logos.

Alex Pfeffer @alexpfeffer.bsky.social · 16/01/2025
2. As soon as I would be able to compose in one key I would make sure I can craft short melodies or jingles with 3-5 notes.

If I would start off again today to become a professional music composer: 1. Getting familiar with the basics of music theory and sound design and listen to as many CI sounds as possible per day and analyze them to bits.

I often times sat down and just trying to focus on a single instrument during an entire playthrough. Then picking another instrument and listened to the same track again ... and again, and again. Doing that from time to time helped me understanding more about music than anything else.

In my experience, the moment you start paying attention to not just the lead melody or the pounding percussion grooves, for example, in a trailer or video game track, but everything that happens beyond the obvious, you learn so much more.

It is important to not only understand the rooms, doors and hallways of a house, but the consistency of the walls or the wood or steel structures keeping it all together.

Alex Pfeffer @alexpfeffer.bsky.social · 14/01/2025
There was and is always too much focus on the audible instruments. I mean, all instruments in a track are audible but there are the leading horns or vocals and then there are the sneaky synth arpeggios, harmony-supporting string arrangements, ghost notes in drum grooves, etc.

One thing I noticed over the years when giving as much helpful feedback as possible to new music composers is the following:
