In posts on the Cornell rapes, I saw criticism of consent ed, & realized "consent" has a very limited meaning for many. For me, consent ed isn't simply needing a "yes," it's about humanity, autonomy; developing empathy from childhood to adults who believe in others' well-being, happiness, pleasure.

The narrative that Americans are divided on abortion is a lie to hide just how undemocratic bans are—and convince lawmakers to take weaker stances on abortion. ~70% of Deep South voters oppose abortion bans. I wrote about the implications of this:

Why would some women support misogynist movements? I discussed for this article how such women see themselves as different from the women these ideologies demonize. “It gives them status and elevates them over the oppression they would otherwise face.” But this is an imagined distinction.

When I was first diagnosed at 18, I worried a lot about people’s reactions if I talked about “gross” bathroom-related illness. And that concern was sometimes borne out, by people who asked what Crohn’s Disease was, and then didn’t like hearing the answer.

Watched Two Weeks Notice tonight. As someone with Crohn’s, I love movies where women practically shit themselves, & the love interest still thinks they’re beautiful after. Holidate is my fav for this kind of scene. French Kiss has a good bit too (I so resonate with wanting all the delicious cheese)

Yet because of widespread himpathy, the fact that women’s educational attainment does not translate into higher salaries than is often ignored. Instead, we see talking points depicting cisgender men as victims and advocating redirecting resources to keep them from being “left behind.”

I recently explained in an interview that women’s increase in higher education isn’t men being left behind—it’s another mark of their privilege. (Cisgender) men make more money with fewer credentials, while women are trying to succeed in our sexist society. cew.georgetown.edu/resource/cew...

Their framing has been that anti-trans legislation and rulings, especially targeting transgender women, are about about protecting girls and women. It really a way to enforce biological essentialism through a scapegoated minority, and use that to expand to targeting cisgender girls and women.

Using “incel” alone grants the ideological community their claim that it is identity that they are targeted for, erasing the term’s history and leading to a separate term for women—“femcel”—when it was a woman who created the concept and original (gender-neutral, non-hateful) community.

It seems like a major barrier to consistent use of the term “misogynist incels” is the preference for short-form terms. If I start using “mincel” for misogynist incels, would that fix the problem?
