Thought the sewage scandal was bad? Think again. Sewage works are also a major industrial waste disposal route. Power stations, airports, hospitals, landfills: ~608bn litres last year. No independent regulator. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Very interested to see whether this applies to public land only, or if private land as well & whether anything changes re. how they bring about the required land use change. Successive govs' have been reluctant to use anything other than soft touch incentives which rarely work at scale.

If @andyburnham.bsky.social were Prime Minister during the Blitz: "There is an urgent problem of bombs falling on London. They appear to be coming out of the sky. We convened a COBRA meeting to discuss it. The root causes of this problem are not something I am prepared to discuss." #ClimateEmergency

“The UK is very short [of broccoli] at the moment, so it’s being imported from Spain and Holland to try to cover the orders,” What do Spain and Holland have in common? Extensive greenhouse systems with highly efficient water use and various techs to manage heat. UK does not have such a system.

"On some farms, grass to feed animals has all but stopped growing, meaning farms are having to use animal-feed reserves that have been put aside for winter" Without further gov subsidies climate crisis could actually make a lot of UK animal agriculture economically unviable

Think there’s a non-zero chance Elon Musk responds to the growing backlash against data centres by getting into the bottled water business selling X-branded data centre waste water, claiming “our cooling systems are actually so clean and so advanced it’s totally fine to drink the water”
