first at bat made me wonder, so: jackson chourio has swung at 55.1% of pitches in the postseason, second-highest among players not yet eliminated (angel martínez, who is 0-15; min. 50 pitches)

I don't know how much approach/plan really matters when you have a 61% fastball whiff rate. The answer to that is just "do better"

andrew benintendi struck out in every plate appearance he he had in this series. all seven!!

bringing in a guy with a career 15% walk rate to face a very patient hitter with the bases loaded is very brave managing. of course, sabrowski is also one of the few pitchers with an even higher career strikeout rate than murakami (37% to 35%)

anthony kay has now hit 27 batters this year. none of them are ever injured enough to leave the game, and that's as much pain as i've ever seen them show

hagen smith zone rate by game this series game 1: 51 pitches, 29% in-zone game 3: 21 pitches, 29% in-zone game 4: 27 pitches, 26% in-zone somehow only one run allowed if fedde gets out of this

imo they should go up to 190 games and cut the postseason entirely

teams should be limited to no more than two mid-inning pitching changes in a game. we're already at 3 runs per game in the playoffs; i can't take any more commercials

I was going to put it on after the playoff game ended until this made me check the score. How can you take six threes in a half in 2026?

sasaki should throw his splitter like 70% of the time i think. it's basically his only good pitch and also the only one he can locate
020
alexandra whitley @alexandraw.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
i can't think of any justification for roki sasaki to throw 0 splitters in his first 12 pitches under any circumstances

I think you can remove the lower bound EV and upper bound LA though because those only make it tougher to hit it that far. With that larger sample, you get 13 non-Coors batted balls of at least 342 feet. So yes unlikely but possible

postseason included, aaron nola is 262 home runs allowed away from the all-time mark. i think that's doable in the last four years of his contract

remembered that the aaron nola contract goes through 2030

i strongly disagree with a commercial for the postseason including a pitcher striking out ke’bryan hayes. the skill level required is just not that high there

maybe the wrong day to say this since rutschman has their only hit but i'm still looking at the red sox lineup and seeing maybe four or five guys that i'd rather have getting those extra pa

i'm always fascinated by teams watching a guy like adley rutschman play terribly for months, and no better than adequately for years, and still insisting on hitting them high in the order for some reason

i don’t mean to be rude but there’s basically zero chance that morgan ever gets to the big leagues under any other circumstances; this is it
100
alexandra whitley @alexandraw.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
three days ago tony vitello said he would get morgan into a game and apparently he was just lying? or messing with the guy?
Alex Pavlovic on Twitter:

Zach Morgan won’t be activated, will end up getting two stints in big leagues and a taxi squad week without getting in a game. Pretty brutal. Giants used record-tying 71 players, but somehow didn’t get an at-bat for a homegrown guy from Stockton.

alexandra whitley @alexandraw.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
so the giants promised that they would get zach morgan into a game so that he wouldn’t be a phantom big leaguer and then just forgot about him?

i realize that i didn't actually answer the question on koss in particular; the giants broadcast thought that it was bunting for a hit very poorly. krukow said it was koss's hardest hit ball of the year, spurring a momentary awkward silence because teammate logan webb was also in the booth

giants bunting has shot way up during the season. 3.8% of batted balls in september is the most of any team in any month this year, first team month since 2018 to cross even 3.5%
table from baseball savant of sf giants's bunts (as pitches) per batted ball (as total) by month

Rk. Team	Month	Year	Pitches	Total Pitch %
1 SF Sep/Oct	2026	19 495 3.8
2 SF Aug 2026	15 693 2.2

that was +3.6 win probability and a free out to a pitcher having obvious trouble throwing strikes. to set up osleivis basabe in place of christian koss, plus two more righties behind that
