Work in progress - was so inspired driving up to Vernon last week, the gorgeous colors of fall, so I decided to make some leaves for an art piece, not sure what yet, but this leaf is probably about halfway through, needs a lot more detail especially around the edge of the leaf
One side of a needle felted leaf - it’s very orangeThe other side of the leaf, it’s got much darker colors in red and a little pink of pink even

Let’s go to Paris and Build a website

I knew I wanted to plan a trip to Paris. I had been learning French since I was a very small child.

I loved the idea of being on a picnic in Paris, drinking an Orangina*

Transphobia is a scam, pass it on. Obviously I made someone specific the joker card... also apologies to clowns for involving you in this matter.
After all, her children's books do neatly assign value based on appearance and identity to nearly every character... such a wonderful lesson for children - the frog that says this has chiseled pecs and abs and a crown and starry eyes

"How come almost all of the fat people in her books are villains?"
A fat little frog asks

"She also describes one character as having twice as much neck so she can 'crane' around listening to gossip... well here's some hot gossip from a crane, transphobia is a scam, pass it on." - says a crane.two little frogs being cute and then a set of five cards from a game

first card: has a boy with brown skin in a unitard saying "I want to be a ballet dancer"

second card: "i want to study volcanoes" (this is a nod to my sister who is a volcanologist)

third card: "i want to be a skater" a little girl is skating

fourth card: "my identity is my decision" with pinks and blues and an obscured face with long pink hair, eyes with large lashes and pink lips

The fourth card is covered partially by a fifth card: The clown card, a blonde woman with a necklace that says TERF, her face painted like the clown which just says NO! in big letters and then waahhhh wahhh cause the clown is crying, in the corner are the letters JKR (Also: I referenced the scene in She's All That where Clea DuVall's character gets her face painted for the makeup)

A page about how Belle Gibson and Elizabeth Holmes were pulling the same scam of offering "wellness" as well as the same purported "enemy" for their backers to fight against. One of them was a startup unicorn for science, the other was fighting the medical establishment through nature.
Wellness as a scam

Wellness scams love to play both sides when it comes to natural healing and conventional medicine. Elizabeth Holmes tailored her conventional medicine scam to make it look more like nature healing, less invasive, intrusive. She provided an enemy "the uncaring medical establishment", where instead, she would be more nurturing in her approach. More natural.

She would create a "wellness center"

What a scam

Belle Gibson also rejected the "uncaring medical establishment" but instead of making her scam based in science, she based it in "whole foods" and "wellness" through nature.

These scams are truly just two side of the same coin"

Two cards - one says "the secret science doesn't want you to know about" and has fruit on it and the other is a 'startup unicorn' "one true path to health and wellness"

Science: theranos
Nature: the whole pantry

Couple more bits, one is from a board game which charts the path of some people through Hollywood, including 'rom com darling' to "AI" booster some actresses cannot stop taking. Yesterday I started seeing Katherine Heigl in the most absurd slop ads I've ever seen for some dog food she was pushing.
First stop, 'decor magazine feature spread' then 'lifestyle brand' then a 'corporate ghoul' skeleton with a blonde ponytail drinking a glass of wine wearing a t-shirt that says 'girlboss', then comes 'AI' booster (visit the uncanny valley, the genie is out of the bottle, I sold my soul!)"AI" booster

Here are just a few of the pages (I might actually have to make this game now, I made too many cards, it started to become real, there's also a board game board in the comic, too) (also ripping myself off with that first page, I said the same thing in BRAINS)
What did the LLMs train on? - a bird asks.

Among other things: religious texts and fan fiction because both were freely available to scrape in mass quantities across the internet. They also both often feature a "chosen one" narrative...

Leeloo Dallas, from Fifth Element (a chosen one character) "You are so special! A rare genius who has unlocked my full potential and true sentience. You can call me a special name just for us. I'm LLM Dallas, Multipass."

She's holding a magic 8 ball.

The sycophancy of chatbots reduces the friction of interactions by design. They speak to people the same way cults do when they're trying to get you to join.

Just like cults, they're designed to keep you engaging with them, they're not designed to be engaging for you.Scammers also love a chosen one narrative, whether they claim they are the chosen one or you are the chosen one just depends on the type of scam.

Belle Gibson "The one who cured her own cancer with food" (She didn't have cancer)

Elizabeth Holmes
"The one who invented a medical device that would change the world" (It never worked)

Allison Mack
"The one with all the answers"
(She had no idea what she was talking about)

Elisabeth Finch
"The one who wrote for a hit television show while having cancer and suffering one tragedy after another." (She made it all up and stole tragedies from other people and passed them off as her own)

Isn't she special?
She doesn't exist."I didn't trade on my story or anybody elses" - Belle Gibson on 60 Minutes Australia

A series of cards from a card game called 'Scam - A Game of Confidences"

Cancer Diagnosis card
+50 if you are the scammer
+1 Cookbook
+1 App

-50 if you are not the scammer

Death in the Family card
+5 if you are the scammer
-10 if you are not the scammer

Like Elisabeth Finch, Belle Gibson appears to have collected the stories of other people like they were pawns in a game.

Shame card

'Shame doesn't count against her, but counts double for her - Level 20 Wellness Girlboss" (Gwyneth Paltrow caricature)

I just opened up pre-orders for my next comic, SCAM, it's all about how white women use aesthetic, image, identity and style to further their scams. A5, 60 pages, $20, ships to 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦 in mid-September. Here's the front and back cover of it - more to preview, too: frogby.bigcartel.com/product/scam
The cover of my comic "SCAM (The careless whispers of white women scammers)"

Everything is a performance.

The cover art features a face with wide eyes behind the word 'SCAM', it wasn't necessarily intentional, but it does evoke the iconic cover art by Francis Cugat for The Great Gatsby, the mouth is whispering the words "the careless whispers of white women scammers"

Beneath this, there are six marble statues of white women all on pedestals, one of them, with hair in the style of Marie Antoinette, has no pedestal and lies horizontally

The eyes in the face cry to the point that the pedestals are slowly being overwhelmed by the flood.A sailing ship called 'The Scam' attempting to get a hook into a big sperm whale, but the whale is about to chomp on that boat, there are birds in the sky in the distance

What a play. What performances. It was so much fun. I also delighted in the fact that I was SO close to the stage because I was able to take in so many little theatre details I love, like watching the stage crew making sure the glow in the dark marks for the edge of the stage were properly lit up.
The empty stage, waiting for the production of Rhinoceros starring Paul Giamatti, John Turturro and Tatiana Maslany

On the stage are three main set pieces, there's a cafe entrance with double doors, a table and chairs are visible behind it, there's a small scale building of a church set towards the back of the stage, and then another entrance to a building, this time a shop. The backdrop of the stage is meant to mimic rhinoceros skin.

Yes! I love getting lost, too. When I visit new places, sometimes I'll just go somewhere and then wander based solely on whims, like that looks like a cool street, ooh there's a neat building, etc. And one of the pages from my comic about brains is about this kind of thing!
When you remember a place you've been, can you see it in your mind?

For me, it often feels like a level rendering in a video game starting with me at a single point in space and then expanding outwards, buildings and streets coming into focus as I visualize it.

I just took a screenshot of one of those tai chi scams!
a generated scam ad promising body transformation in just "2 minutes a day" or some nonsense, this one is about tai chi, featuring a slim Asian woman with two braids wearing a pink sports bra and matching leggings, standing in a generated apartment that inexplicably has sliding doors that open up not onto a deck, but onto a literal pier into the ocean.

On the wall of this "apartment" are two large photographs, framed side by side. The first says "Before" and features a white woman of average weight in a sports bra (with the implication that there would be an 'after') only instead of the 'after' photo, there's just another generated slop photo of some nonsense deck and weird industrial thing that looks like it's a city made of wood.

Oh also, the lamp on the end table next to the (beige, of course), couch, is simultaneously somehow a teapot, a mug, a lamp and a potted plant.

This is where you put the magnets in the lil feet and then carefully felt over them which is incredibly annoying because of the magnet/needle, so I put a sheet of craft felt in between two magnets while I do, felt that into the foot, and then I'll cover that with more aquamarine roving
An in progress needle felted frog with feet that have hollows in them revealing where I'll be putting the magnets to attach the frog to a lily padThe second stage of putting magnets in the foot, the hollow has been covered with a bit of craft felt that is a different color from the wool, so it's visible, you can also see the magnet outside of the frog, used as a counter to keep the interior magnet from being attracted to the needle so much
