I was expecting to enjoy it based on Iñárritu writing/directing and the actors who chose to be in it. I was not expecting how funny it would be.

I have only visited Seattle, but live in Chicago. There are some areas that are less walkable, but the city at large makes it incredibly easy to get around. It's also one of the friendliest places I've ever been to, and imo the most beautiful city in the US. (Barcelona most beautiful I've been to)

The other day, someone on the 22 was singing loud enough that I'm sure people on the sidewalk could hear them. I will never understand

I saw it last week at the Alamo Drafthouse, and can't wait to try to share it with others - it's great!

This makes me miss when I used to run a Krieg siege regiment. Crafting the vehicles is such fun!

The Thraco-Attic is undoubtedly one of the most aesthetic helmets ever made, and I wish more people would use it.

For the second part, conversion rates towards more action are always slim, but if you give people easy steps to allow them to feel comfortable, they're more likely to progress to more transgressive forms of protest or other organized action.

This is my view, that they're a necessary part of a pipeline towards progress, even if their direct effects are very limited. Specifically they do two things: 1) give visibility to how many people support the cause and 2) give an easy safe space for people to dip their toes into action.

Consider Clausewitz's linkage of military action to political objectives to the US-Israel-Iran War. Iran's goal is to cause enough political and economic instability to force their aggressors to capitulate. The US doesn't appear to have a political objective. Israel is invading Lebanon.

Something I really love about a sandwich (burgers included) is that depending on its orientation while taking a bite you can completely change the flavour and texture, depending on the order of ingredients.

I wonder if, centuries from now, these latest wars in the middle east will be recorded as just a continuation of the Crusades.

I use a browser add-on called Fluff-Busting Purity which removes all ads and suggested posts from your feed, and then set my feed to be in chronological order rather than the algorithm. And I'm still about to leave because of how bad it's gotten.

I've had that in Spain where specifically Belgian feels like a compliment. If they assumed English I would have taken it as an insult though lol

It's not quite as literal, but makes the analogy that human civilization builds upon itself in the same fashion, something I already wholeheartedly agree with.

when you have anti-DEI proponents openly going after black military officers for recruiting from HBCUs and suing schools for their black and Hispanic enrollment *even after the schools ended any racial preferences* then the only honest label for these people is "segregationist"

Thank you for sharing, I somehow missed this and am absolutely here for it. Beyond the topic and humour, I really enjoy the character design. Western animation currently feels like it's struggling to find an identity in this, and so I love a unique take that matches the mood/theme of the show/movie

But is withholding aid violence? Is disallowing a people food, water, and medicine not the same as bombing them, when you cause their deaths all the same? What difference does it make if you shoot someone or deny someone else's ability to have a lifesaving surgery or if both cause a death? ...3/4

The other is an exploration of violence. Our media has become increasingly saturated with a fetishization of violence as well, where we're made to enjoy it in a Tarantino film or Call of Duty game. We've wholly accepted that physically punching or shooting someone else is violence. ...2/4
