Check out the Governor's Friday afternoon news dump... Always great to announce things like this on Friday afternoon when you're the one who caused the harm to school district budgets with your $2 increase to education funding. NSEA warned you of the harm you'd cause in 2025, and yet here we are.

"And Nevadans are skeptical. According to Emerson College Polling, a majority of Nevada voters oppose data centers being built in or near their communities. Attaching school funding and promising revenue doesn’t suddenly make their concerns about water, energy, noise and quality of life disappear."

Alexander Marks @alexandermarks.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
If Gov. Lombardo would like to take a break from giving data centers tax abatements, he could address the school funding crisis caused by his $2 increase in per-pupil funding and use all available mechanisms, including some of the $650M Education Stabilization Account, to provide temporary funding.

More 🔥 from Hugh at the @nevadacurrent.com "But in the here and now, their main purpose is reelecting a CCEA-beholden, Trump-enamored Lombardo. And in the process, the state must bow before perhaps the most arrogant, callous, threatening, and dangerous industry the world has ever known."

Alexander Marks @alexandermarks.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
If state leaders want data centers to support public education, end all abatements and make them pay their fair share. It's that simple.

Given 59% of Nevadan voters don't want more data centers in their neighborhoods, and folks are trying to use public education to sell their growth, will Joe Lombardo and company be hopping on these trump pollster talking points to sell more data centers to Nevadans? 🤔

Yes, Gov. Lombardo, we agree. Your administration has done a very poor job in education over the years! You vetoed universal school meals, lower class sizes, and after years of chronic underfunding, you increased per pupil funding by just $2 per student causing districts to cut staff and services.

Since they love talking what happened years ago: Before coming to Nevada, Vellardita was one of a group of former SEIU-UHW officials found liable by a federal jury for breaching their fiduciary duties to union members during an effort to weaken their union and launch a competing organization.

Our public schools shouldn’t be “powered” by more data centers. If Joe Lombardo and co. want data centers to support our public schools, end the abatements and make them pay their fair share.

ccea wants you to be furious that Aaron Ford sponsored SB170, but who else sponsored? Michael Roberson. Their PAC has paid Roberson’s firm millions for political work. He's guilty of everything they accuse Ford of, and yet he keeps drawing a paycheck from them. What's their objection exactly?

Alexander Marks @alexandermarks.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
So John Vellardita of ccea just admitted on KNPR that they're literally trying to tip the scales for Joe Lombardo in support of data centers! "When asked if that meant the union was trying to influence the election in favor of Republican incumbent Governor Joe Lombardo, Vellardita said yes."

Funding for our public schools and students should not depend on Nevada building more data centers. The good news is that lawmakers already have the Commission on School Funding's plan to sustainably fund our schools, and it doesn't make funding dependent on building more unpopular data centers.

Welp, nothing says “serious plan to fund public education” like making school funding dependent on the continued growth of an industry 59% of Nevada voters don’t want in their communities. Good luck with that, Joe Lombardo and company.

Alexander Marks @alexandermarks.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Let's be clear: today's proposal from an organization backing Joe Lombardo for Governor is not a school-funding plan. It's a data center growth plan that uses students and teachers to make it more politically attractive. Just another gimmick to help the wealthy keep their tax abatements.

Yada yada we support data centers and want to see more built in your backyard but can’t really say that yada yada yada This is a pro-data center policy with some education funding attached to make the unpopular data center industry easier to sell. Just another gimmick.

The labor movement has always stood for something bigger than any one job or workplace. No matter where we come from or what we look like, our society is stronger, fairer, and more just when working people have a voice in the decisions that shape their lives, families, and communities.

Alexander Marks @alexandermarks.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Notwithstanding that it’s very unclear what “abated revenue” even means, Joe Lombardo’s new plan to fund our public schools is data centers? Nevadans are worried about what data centers will do to our water and electricity bills, and Lombardo’s answer is to make our schools dependent on them too.
021
Alexander Marks @alexandermarks.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
With all the polling and public opposition, Joe Lombardo is still "wholeheartedly in support of data centers" Whether it's stadiums, studios, or servers, Lombardo's always got the wrong priorities.

Notwithstanding that the most relatable thing about Joe Lombardo is that he also has a burner account, “wtf” is a solid reaction to Nevada’s rankings on education, class sizes, educator pay, and affordability. It’s just not the best response when you’re the guy who’s been governor for four years.

We’ve said Schools Over Stadiums, Schools Over Studios, and now, Schools Over Servers. For too long, Nevada has called corporate subsidies “investments” while public education is “spending,” handing hundreds of millions in public dollars to professional sports and data centers.
