I'm in the UK at least once a year and I can also come around without a conference happening. Also feel free to ping me in case you're in Switzerland at one point. 😉

Yes. Keep in mind that this is not a port from Microsoft. Also some prior have been doing stack ports anyway. 😅 Before AI, I would've said something like "but is the performance win of 6.9% - 8% worth it?" but nowadays reading code is probably becoming less important.

Hey, Rails peeps. Hot Cell is a suite of gems that helps you secure Active Storage against image library zero-days. I just released v1.0! mike.daless.io/posts/2026/1... Links to Rails World video and slides as well as the project repo and docs are in the post.

Hot Cell v1.0: Securing Active Storage in the age of AI
Hot Cell v1.0 moves Active Storage's image, video, and PDF processing out of your Rails app and into a locked-down sidecar container.

The vast majority of entries is still to be published. Please bare with me. 🙏 It's more work than most expect. A real scan for least distortion and best quality. Then I fix the orientation and colours because of poor paper quality. Every page and every pen colour leads to a different contrast.

Today is a big day for Herb! It's built into Rails 8.2 by default for all HTML+ERB views. My talk at #RailsWorld in Austin today answered three questions: What is Herb? What ships in Rails 8.2? And what does this enable? Herb v0.11 and ReActionView v0.6 released alongside it.

Exactly. You got it: it is not tolerated. Which place in Europe do you know where this behaviour would be tolerated? Also DHH's numbers regarding "Danes are the minority" don't add up at all. His phrase does completely fulfill the typical "re-populating" (German "Umvolkung") propaganda though. 🙄

Would you mind elaborating how and where you're using them? I think that it's super underrated to have non-US and non-Chinese models at hand and knowing where they fail and where they shine.

This is also one of the things that created that nice mix of Rubyists. Some of my friends didn't attend to EuRuKo conferences even when the journey and/or accommodation is too pricey. I'm sure that there must be very good reasons for that pricing.

Alexander Adam @alexanderadam.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
My memory might be off but it felt like most ticket prices were once between 50 and 120 Euro. It is, or was, the type of conference that's not enterprisey — where you don't have to beg for your employer to go.

Alexander Adam @alexanderadam.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
I remember #EuRuKo being pretty affordable for people from not-so-wealthy countries. I guess 🇨🇿 #Czechia hit inflation too for #EuRuKo2026. It was nice that most #RubyConferences were affordable for everybody. It made you meet people that otherwise wouldn't have come.

I realized it has been ~1.5 years since I concluded my series of post on JSON optimization. So I got curious how much faster it became since then. 2.7.2 was the last version before I took over maintainership. 2.9.0 was the version I released at the end of the blog series.
