made myself double sad by trying to cheer myself up. I haven’t visited my family for Christmas in eight years and with these flight prices that streak will be extended

my birthday is this weekend and because I 1) have been away from home pet sitting essentially the entire month and 2) feel guilty about asking people to spend any money right now, I have not planned to do anything and now it’s too late and I’ve made myself sad about it (millennial lol)

Again, it’s not just that this Tesla asshole killed a mother and her child with his recklessness. It’s that as his victims were dying, he did nothing to help them and instead sat scrolling through his phone.

Another family member noted that at the crash scene, “Chernicky stood idly by complaining of his knee and scrolling through his phone. He offered no assistance. He killed my family members. I believe he is a threat to this community, and deserves to remain in custody.”

So far, season 7 of Taskmaster NZ is delightful enough to distract from a rather underwhelming UK version happening concurrently. I promise I am not just saying this because I have a longstanding crush on Rose Matafeo.

Achievement unlocked: I presented to Board members today! Though I’ve testified before the California legislature before, this was my first time in front of the mayor and executive management committee.

With the price of gas these days I consider free metro travel a pretty good perk tbh!

120

Alex Amadeo @alexamadeo.com · 18/09/2026

Interesting! It’s of course not required and for a long time I resisted on principle. My current work is also my first public sector job, but I was already used to fairly limited in-office perks as a nonprofit employee

Our hearts are with the victims and families of tonight’s devastating Metro bus and helicopter crashes in Chatsworth, and with the entire NBC4 family. Thank you to the first responders working tirelessly tonight.

the other thing is that I am on a Public Service Loan Forgiveness path and the site is also giving me inaccurate info, like this looks like if I just certify my employment my undergrad loans would be forgiven! But clicking for details it lists some of my employment as eligible when I know it’s not!

55 qualifying payments made, 65 to go. But 82 payments need certification. What?

I’m still absolutely gutted that the SAVE plan for student loan repayment has ended. I have been putting off the next steps until now, I just don’t know how I’m possibly going to be able to afford this increase and I know I’m not alone.

I worry that many on the left will vote for Kim for the wrong reasons. Kim's proposals are a bailout of wealthy suburban and rural homeowners at the expense of working class, urban people. She is using progressive language to distort yet another market to benefit those who have benefitted to date.
