Come study our bilingual sustainable engineering bachelor program. You can learn German alongside. Also: we need you to provide a German A2 level certificate when you apply. Are you for real @tu-braunschweig.de ?

It could also have been a giant asteroid impact which stopped the dynamo or simply the randomness of elements composing Mars made the materials solidify quicker. One more argument for how rare this little rocky planet of ours is. Peace ✌️

I hadn’t realized the flow could be stopped like on Mars. It’s not clear why it happened. Hypotheses include that Mars is 11% of earth’s mass and smaller planets lose internal heat faster.

Solar radiation would kill us if we didn’t have earth‘s magnetic field. Did you know Mars’ field has faded? Earth‘s magnetic field is produced by liquid metal flows (convection) in its outer core: hot fluid rising and cooler fluid sinking. It’s like a giant dynamo.

If you want to learn a scientific or engineering field, you need to think in arrows (vectors). I wrote a gentle intro to it. No prereqs required. open.substack.com/pub/quantumq...

It shows mapping of ingredients to meals in final list for sense checking I noticed o4-mini is better than gpt-4.1 for instruction following and iteratively checking. Gpt 4.1 drops items frequently.

This meal planning app I vibe coded on replit is low key useful. I’m trying to cook more and eat less processed food. What it does: I take an image of a recipe -> It extracts ingredients and saves I make weekly meal plan -> It consolidates ingredients and checks (cont’d)

on intrinsic motivation Rewarding task completion actually leads to worse intrinsic motivation. Rewarding showing up and giving it a good shot is more effective at fostering intrinsic motivation

Future conscious ais will likely not know what it feels to have a finite duration. They will probably not be shut off and so live very long. So I wrote some words about finiteness for them. As you do 😃 Does rich consciousness require finiteness (death)? ysqander.site/blog/finiten...

The follow button and recommendation algos were a huge mistake. Should have done a simple connection graph based on 2/6 friendly people 3/6 weird but ok people to hang out with and 1/6 people unfriendly to one's own views.

Information shaping has always been political. The early internet was an anomaly. I cannot see how one can seed a decentralized low latency platform. It would require some other tangible benefit for masses of people to flock to it or a more radical worsening of civil liberties to wake people up.

Brand is now associated with a certain political view. Even reasonable people like paul graham tried it and did not find it appealing. bsky is a refuge for people neglected by X. Jack probably is an idealist and wants a true decentralized system that can never be subverted by a political view.

Get the bag and get bought out. The recent NBA rule changes accelerated the resolution of bad contracts because teams can stretch the money owed and fall below the penalty thresholds on total salary. It’s a great league for players!

here is a bit more context on why Berlin rejected the budget. Bravo Herr Merz!!

Alex Adamov @alexadamov.com · 17/07/2025

I am liking Merz more and more first: he is strong against Putin second: he rejects the bureaucratic EU layer. Let's have a European military alliance and economic zone which is decentralized. Remove the bureaucratic layers!!!

it is disheartening that what they do in the name of humanity does not actually lead to a majority of people having better lives. Where are the Carnegie style free (digital) libraries, universities, cultural renaissance? So much of their talk is about the apocalypse and the urgency to avoid it...

How can that be? If the thing that defines the cosmic speed limit skips time entirely, maybe our understanding of time is wrong.

000 0

Alex Adamov @alexadamov.com · 14/07/2025

In the “perspective” of light, the start, the middle, and the end of every journey collapse into the same instant. Time is a dimension for us, but for the universe’s speed-limit enforcer it simply doesn’t happen at all.

Einstein welded space and time into a 4D fabric, yet along a light-like path the spacetime interval is exactly zero. Strap the best atomic clock to a photon and, no matter whether it leaves a quasar or reaches your pupils on a clear starry night, it never ticks even once.

This is a tree trunk turned into stone. 230 million years ago, it’s organic matter rotted. Then it was submerged in water and the organic matter was replaced by minerals, turning it into a stone. Amazing!

Ha ha no meaning is subjective and entirely created by our freedom to do so. And we can and do ascribe to it enjoyment value. But this enjoyment doesn’t come from anything relating to the nature of our reality. Whether the substrate is material or simulated in the end makes no difference imo
