Trail cam caught a black bear wandering around the cabin. I had cleared these paths for us to get around the property, but looks like others are also enjoying them. #bear

These lovely little visitors are apparently "Elegant Sphinx" moths After coming to my light trap, they hung out on the balcony with me as I had breakfast and then flew off into the woods. I hope they enjoyed their morning as much as I did with them. #teammoth #california

Close up of the head and forelegs of the Elegant moth, the black very furry legs and the thickly covered head with bright white stripes on both sides and a dark center line. It's on a rough wooden surface

A pair of Elegant sphinx moths, one relaxed the other prepping for flight on a wooden table.

An Elegant Sphinx moth, wings extended on a open human hand prepared for flight.

This spectacular moth is likely a Montana Six-plume moth, this variant on the plume moth is one I've been hoping to find for a while now. I just love the feather-like wings it has! Size wise this is around 0.3 in/1 cm wide, such a tiny fuzzy creature #teammoth #california

A macro photo of a tiny moth where the wings are feather like plumes, 12 on a side with various brow and white stripes, the center body is a good size brown with 5 thin stripes along the abdomen and two very thin antenna.

Caught this bumblebee nestled deep in a California poppy. #bees #california

A bumblebee with a very yellow head and some large people. Saca on its legs is fully inside the bright orange cup of a California poppy not fully open. Various leaves and stems of the poppies fill the rest of the frame.

I said it back in 2008 when I saw this superb movie the first time, loved it and failed to convince many people to see it and I'll say it again F1 needs more jumps

The legs, doors and all slats are. The bottom is attached using dowels, the back is sitting in dados, the top will be attached with cleats and the top stretchers end in a dovetail. I can send you the plans I drew up if interested.

I was trying to identify it, and I was thinking it looks like a Beautiful plume moth, this photo was taken in California, but those moths are supposed to only be in Europe?

110

Guy Albertelli @albertel.bsky.social · 14/02/2026

First plume moth I've seen at my light trap! The feathery edges to the wings are just so neat. #teammoth

A moth with very reduced wings that are basically just a line off of each side of the body with a smattering of patterns and colors standing on some dusty plastic with some black thing in the background. You can see the feathery edges on the wings and the spikes that decorate its leg joints.

Guy Albertelli @albertel.bsky.social · 13/02/2026

Yeah it's amazing how much the color changes with a finish. Using "Tried & True" which is a linseed oil & beeswax finish

Two sides of a cabinet mid construction one having finish applied and one not resulting in a display of the very different colors of wood the rich cherry color coming out rather that the very pale color of the raw freshly sanded wood. They lean again a drill press and table saw on a sawdust strewn cement floor.

010

Guy Albertelli @albertel.bsky.social · 12/02/2026

Thanks! I am very excited with how nicely it's turning out. The main wood is cherry. It's very pale in that shot as I've just sanded and no finish has yet been applied. The accent wood is quartersawn wenge.

Guy Albertelli @albertel.bsky.social · 11/02/2026

Gotten to the point that all the parts exist and it can be dry assembled, this bathroom linen cabinet is really coming together nicely. #woodworking

Front facing Great Egrets always look silly but the slight cock to the neck adds a whole new flavor of silly. #birb #california

A Great Egret (large white heron like bird) is directly facing and looks straight at the camera with it's neck leaning to it's right in a field of mostly brown vegetation with a few bits of green.

I like how pelicans leap and run on the surface of the water to get going, they are so effortless once up but getting up out of the water is so much effort. Apparently the red by the neck is a specific color morph of the breeding plumage of this subspecies of brown pelicans. #birb #california

A brown pelican leaps into the air, its feet pushing on the water and leaving a splash behind, it's wings are spread out as are the feathers at the tips, an immature gull sits by idly.

Color wise the head is yellowish and then red at the neck

Most birds look different when they look right at you, some look angry, some weird. But the common loon has to have the silliest look I've ever seen. #birb #california

A common loon sits in a body of water, its head is turned to face the camera and your looking straight down its beak, it's face is very puffy (I assume due to subcutaneous fat) which gives it a very silly look.

Western gull hanging out at some tides pools while the tide is out. I really like the contrast in colors. #birb #california #solstice

I take a lot of photos, but sometimes... I really get one that just makes me so very pleased with the result. Plus this time it's a good looking Burrowing Owl just hanging out. #birb #california

Full body shot from the 3/4 rear of a burrowing owl, it's looking at the camera as the sun light falls on the side of it's face, one foot can be seen peeking out. It's surrounded but rocks covered in a variety of colorful lichens.

0143

Guy Albertelli @albertel.bsky.social · 09/12/2025

I just like how aggressive of a stance these little birds can have #birb #california

A white crowned sparrow faces the camera but has it's head turned to the right. It's got a lovely brown white cap of feathers and very orange feets as it stands on some lichen covered rocks. A faint hint of green vegetation can be seen in the background to the upper right of the shot.

Black Phoebe above some water, it mid flight trying to grab little fishes from the water and so looks like it's floating with the beak open and the tips of its beak in the water and the wings pointed back and up as it hovers. A reflection of the bird can be seen in the water below though distorted by waves.

Identifying this moth (Edward's Glassywing) meant I got to learn about Henry Edwards the first "actor-entomolgist" whom I've ever heard of. He seems to have been really quite effective at these seemingly disparate jobs. And it's really pretty. #moth #california

It's a moth holding on to the rim of a clear plastic container. The moth's face and legs dominate the foreground. Its antennae can be seen tucked under its wings. The eye is large and black.
The legs are mostly pale with some red color.to.some segments and black stripes. In the background is some grey cloth and a large white rectangle.
