These lovely little visitors are apparently "Elegant Sphinx" moths After coming to my light trap, they hung out on the balcony with me as I had breakfast and then flew off into the woods. I hope they enjoyed their morning as much as I did with them. #teammoth #california

This spectacular moth is likely a Montana Six-plume moth, this variant on the plume moth is one I've been hoping to find for a while now. I just love the feather-like wings it has! Size wise this is around 0.3 in/1 cm wide, such a tiny fuzzy creature #teammoth #california

First plume moth I've seen at my light trap! The feathery edges to the wings are just so neat. #teammoth

A moth with very reduced wings that are basically just a line off of each side of the body with a smattering of patterns and colors standing on some dusty plastic with some black thing in the background. You can see the feathery edges on the wings and the spikes that decorate its leg joints.

I like how pelicans leap and run on the surface of the water to get going, they are so effortless once up but getting up out of the water is so much effort. Apparently the red by the neck is a specific color morph of the breeding plumage of this subspecies of brown pelicans. #birb #california

Color wise the head is yellowish and then red at the neck

A common loon sits in a body of water, its head is turned to face the camera and your looking straight down its beak, it's face is very puffy (I assume due to subcutaneous fat) which gives it a very silly look.

This hummingbird was a great photo subject. Sat still on this branch and kept occasionally moving its head to let the sunlight interact with it's feathers in different ways to show off the iridescence in them. #birb #california

Identifying this moth (Edward's Glassywing) meant I got to learn about Henry Edwards the first "actor-entomolgist" whom I've ever heard of. He seems to have been really quite effective at these seemingly disparate jobs. And it's really pretty. #moth #california

It's a moth holding on to the rim of a clear plastic container. The moth's face and legs dominate the foreground. Its antennae can be seen tucked under its wings. The eye is large and black.
