Grocery store "security guard" today told my 8 y/o that they have a bad father because I wouldn't play the show my receipt on the way out game. Kid called him an idiot. I called him some other things. He did nothing. There was nothing he could do. Authoritarianism needs you to comply, don't.

A coworker who lived in Happy Valley (PDX suburb) took a night off that summer because he heard there was going to be a BLM march down there, and he needed to protect his house from rioters. Video on Twitter of the march was all soccer moms and teenage girls. No riots.

Refugees International President Jeremy Konyndyk said people often wear sports merchandise without thinking about what the sponsor on the front represents. He said the Blood on the Ball campaign, launched by The Sentry and partner organizations, seeks to raise awareness of how the UAE is using sports sponsorships to whitewash its image while backing the Rapid Support Forces, which have carried out genocide, widespread rape, and other mass atrocities in Sudan. Konyndyk added that he believed Mamdani would likely be sympathetic to those concerns.

The discussion came during a briefing urging the NBA to reconsider its relationship with the UAE over its support for the RSF. Mamdani, who has spoken out against the U.S.-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza, has said his positions on international affairs are guided by a “belief in the universality of international law” and a commitment to making his “values and commitments clear.”
