Addressing our draconian immigration system is the key part of this, and it gets way too little attention. People generally view legal immigration as good. Dems and even many Republicans agree on that. But they never take the next logical step that *we should facilitate it*
Democrats can stand for an orderly system, as opposed to chaos and cruelty. They should not shy away from arguing that illegal immigration is caused partly by too many draconian restrictions on legal immigration. Many voters simply don't know that a big part of the problem is that options for coming here legally have largely been wiped out, and that legal immigration could be managed well if Congress only tried to do so. Democrats can be for a path to legalization for most undocumented immigrants here, for a reinstatement of humanitarian pathways that Trump is erasing, and even for new economic and humanitarian pathways, while packaging this as a real way to bring order to the system.

Does anyone have a scorecard for how many times ICE/CBP have claimed someone rammed/tried to ram them? Seems like a whole lot at this point, and I don’t think a single one has been an actual attempt to ram them It’s like their second favorite bullshit charge after “obstruction” (annoying them)
Tweet from Homeland Security
@DHSgov

While law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation to arrest a serial criminal illegal alien whose rap sheet includes multiple arrests for assault, domestic violence, and driving under the influence, an agitator began stalking and obstructing law enforcement.
Our officers attempted to pull her over using their emergency lights to issue her a warning.
Ignoring law enforcement commands, the agitator refused to pull over and began driving recklessly including running stop signs, nearly colliding with multiple vehicles, and driving directly at law enforcement in an attempt to ram their vehicle. Her actions endangered law enforcement officers, the public, and allowed this violent criminal to remain at large.
Our officers arrested her. Obstructing law enforcement is a felony and a federal crime.

The context of the speech was his opposition to proposed restrictions on immigration by the Chinese Honestly hard to get much more explicit about the belief that we should welcome those who want to come here than Douglass is here
would seem to belong to the whole would become the property of only a part. [...]
It has been thoughtfully observed that every nation, owing to its peculiar character and composition, has a definite mission in the world. [...] Ours seems plain and unmistakable. Our geographical position; our relation to the outside world; our fundamental principles of government, world-embracing in their scope and character; our vast resources, requiring all manner of labor to develop them; and our already existing composite population all conspire to one grand end, and that is to make us the most perfect national illustration of the unity and dignity of the human family that the world has ever seen. In whatever else other nations may have been great and grand, our greatness and grandeur will be found in the faithful plication of the principle of perfect civil equality to the people of all races and of all creeds. [...] If we would reach a degree of civilization higher and grander than any yet attained, we should welcome to our ample continent all nations, kindreds, tongues, and peoples; and as fast as they learn our language and comprehend the duties of citizenship, we should incorporate them into the American body politic. The outspread wings of the American eagle are broad enough to shelter all who are likely to come. [...]
["Let the Chinaman come"]
But it is said that the Chinaman is a heathen and that he will introduce his heathen rites and superstitions here. This is the last objection which should come from those who profess the all-conquering power of the Christian religion. If that religion cannot stand contact with the Chinese,

We've moved past a market economy.
The wealth has accumulated upwards to the point where goods and services no longer matter, it's all just the rich shuffling around money in ways that absorb tax dollars. They can wholesale slaughter us and still make more money.

Oh, he has a footnote saying that AI will figure it out, because of course he does 🤦🏻‍♂️
Footnote: “This is a historically workable standard. See generally IAN HANEY LOPEZ, WHITE By LAW 2-7 (2006) (describing various court cases in American history aimed at determining if the petitioner was White, and explaining how “[t]hough the courts offered many different rationales to justify the various racial divisions they advanced, two predominated: common knowledge and scientific evidence”). The use of artificial intelligence presents another possible method for determining race. See generally Judy Wawira Gichoya et al., AJ recognition of patient race in medical imaging: a modelling study, 4 LANCET DiciT. HEALTH e406 (finding “that AI can accurately predict self-reported race, even from corrupted, cropped, and noised medical images, often when clinical experts cannot”). Needless to say, Congress did not abandon the 1790 rule because it proved impossible to determine who was White.”
