RIPEC's claim of RI being the 11th most progressive *income tax* gets translated to 11th most progressive *tax* (no qualifier) in media coverage; even though (even according to RIPEC) RI relies more heavily on regressive taxes for tax revenue. rhodeislandcurrent.com/2026/01/23/m...
Rhode Island is already considered the 11th most progressive tax state nationwide, based on the percentage point difference between the highest and lowest tax rate, according to analysis by RIPEC.

Rhode Island opened window shopping today for 2026 ACA marketplace plans. Because of expiring premium tax credit enhancements, a typical 60-year-old couple making $85,000 will have to pay an additional $18,600 annually for benchmark coverage. (1/4)
