It has been a pleasure to watch @jmella.bsky.social lead this project - a technical tour de force that brought saturation mutagenesis to cardiomyocytes for the first time, revealed CM-specific effects of LMNA mutations + new features of lamin structure and quality control.

So.. Odyssey… made a whole day out of it, spent the afternoon in Japantown, and saw it late in 70mm at the Kabuki. It was… very mid. Under expectation. Takes itself way too seriously.

Genuinely - I don’t know what we can do anymore. I mean universities esp medical ones like mine have to completely rethink their model to keep science going, till some change down the line. Yes it’s “up to Congress” - but this will have a big impact. Evident already. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/22/u...

UEFAs dominance has become striking. Overall WC balance stands 10-13 CONMEBOL- UEFA, but UEFA got 70% of the last 10. CONMEBOLs teams really didn’t impress this year and much work needs to be done. Football isn’t football without South America.

I get the whole CONMEBOL mentality, we fight for it, even with "dark arts" ok, but 100min without a shot from the Champions is sad, cynical, and reminds me of the 1990 Final- which I watched- same story. Maybe without an aged superstar savior, the team can rebuild into something more positive.

And… I was wrong. The spell of England being unable to beat any of the current World Cup holders since 66 (or runners up) will go past 60 years. Amazing. Admittedly Tuchels tactics were horrendous after scoring- you can’t just defend against Argentina for 45 min. And take off most of the attack.

Seen teams after teams I support crash out off this WC and I am the stage of really not caring who wins for the first time, just mildly hoping Argentina doesn’t win. Sad.

Prediction - England on 7/15 will do what they failed to do since ‘66: beat any World Cup trophy holder in a KO WC game. Argentina 🇦🇷 hasn’t been at all convincing against mid and low level sides, and should probably have lost to 🇪🇬. Real doubts they can stand up to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 physicality esp on their right.

Not the way to go out coach Marsh. Just because Morocco 🇲🇦 underperformed, badly, one half, doesn’t make you the better team. You lost 0-3 without a controversial call. Do better Canada 🇨🇦 - sportsmanship.

I am all for underdogs but anti football teams have to go. Paraguay- Ghana- not impressed. Underdogs for the heart- Cape Verde 🇨🇻, 🇪🇬 led but an amazing person in Mo Salah, DR Congo, amazing, even the USA so far much above prior level, etc etc.

So here is 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ‘s challenge: it’s not “bringing it home” or merely surviving the Azteca. I was researching this and it’s crazy: since ‘66 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 has NEVER beaten a current WC holder or even runner up in a KO game. That’s remarkable. That’s what they have to do get back in it. 60 years it has eluded them.

World Cup fever despite the depressing atmospherics. As a German 🇩🇪 wish the team the best- though I feel we won’t go too deep. Interesting 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 stat I just realized : 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 since 1966 has never beaten any of the current 8 🏆holders in a knockout game! Maybe with a German coach they can do it! Good luck 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.
