I do not think I have ever before experienced such crippling anxiety around any writing projects as I am experiencing right now. I have been too frozen to make progress for months. 😔

Akotowaa @akotowaa.bsky.social · 02/07/2026

Gosh, I just disappeared for more than three weeks... I'm glad you're good. Have you made progress with the figuring out of things in the interim?

Apparently, this is due in part to a neurological disorder that only recently got diagnosed. How fun and exciting.

I am alive, and that’s all that I can be very sure of about my existence right now. 🙃 What’s up?

I’ve been really, really tired for like 10 years.

On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

The cover letter to my first submission:

August 12, 1971
1381 East 72nd Street
Brooklyn NY 11234

Edward L. Ferman
The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fistion
347 East 53rd Street
New York, NY 10022

Dear Mr. Ferman,

I am submitting for possible publication the enclosed story, "Gem of the Gods". Too long has Sword and sorcery been dead. I hope this may help revive it.

A stamped self-addressed envelope is enclosed in case of rejection.

Sincerely yours,
Scott Edelman

Did I start watching The Diplomat because half the leading cast had Ghanaian heritage? Yes. Do I have a crush on David Gyasi now? Also yes.

I love how Jesus just started a zombie wave and then moved on with the rest of his agenda. Like what do you mean a bunch of dead people just started walking out of tombs and re-entering the city LOLOL

If you're attending Flights of Foundry this weekend, you can catch me at 2 events! I'll be doing a reading from The Year of Return at hour 23 (for me, that's 3pm GMT today, Saturday) and moderating a panel called Honoring Indigeneity at hour 44 (for me, that's 12pm GMT tomorrow, Sunday).

So, in all the online chatter about Netflix's Wednesday when it first came out, somehow it never crossed my timeline that Wednesday's dance uses choreography from the Tag Team music video made for the 1993 Addams Family Values film.

Oh wait, I just remembered I wrote one this year. Under Clarion West-like duress (I had a 48-hour deadline).

I’ve done some revisions of previously drafted short stories, including CW stories. And I’ve done lots of writing for the novel-in-progress. But my brain has apparently put the knowledge of how to send a story from idea to draft into a jammed junk drawer. 2 years. Zero short stories. This is GHETTO.

110

Akotowaa @akotowaa.bsky.social · 18/09/2025

Okay so apparently I have not written any short stories since Clarion West 2023. Jezos.
