Here's my year in Cursor. I've been using it full-time for the past 2 months with the Pro license. I still used it mostly for side projects during Q1 and Q2, so Gemini 2.5 Pro still dominates. My tab usage has been in decline since Agents. How did your year look? cursor.com/2025

Gm ☀️ It’s a public holiday here, so what better way to spend it than exploring some cool new stuff? Taking notes, there's so much good stuff. ✍️ Do you know what this is?

Good day, Celebrating it in the garden with these beautiful flowers. I even felt like running, so I went for a 5k but stopped short so I have something to run towards later this week 🙂 Don’t forget to rest, my friend. You’ve worked for it.

My MCP book is out 🚨 Build MCP servers with TypeScript - a book taking you from "Hello World" MCP to a host-orchestrated workflow in your spare time. Feedback means a lot to me, so it’s free for those willing to leave a review. 🙂 Reply and I'll DM you the link!

Gumroad offers a quick setup for products to check interest. However, with the "pay what you want" model, here's what a creator receives after €1. Are there any alternatives where people can sign up and leave tips?

GM ☀️ Final pass and edits on the book. More people subscribed (and paid!) through my free Gumroad page, which I set up just to track interest. This is definitely not helping with my impostor syndrome, thanks 😄 Diagrams are cool, adding more where appropriate. Let's go!

Kicking off the morning in shades, the baby went to bed too late and I feel like I’m having jet lag. 🤒 I managed to get in a training session but felt very heavy. During morning coffee, I finished the last chapter of the MCP book and sent out the first preview. Let’s go 💪

This is not even a dollar, right? On the other hand, it’s not even a paid product but a pay-what-you-want. And sometimes, this is all you need as a small indie educator to give motivation to finish your next book. Thank you!🙏

Discipline involves not only following through on your commitments but also refraining from actions you know are harmful. I heard something along these lines in a podcast during training, and I think it’ll stick with me for this week. Did you do your Monday workout?

GM devs ☀️ The MCP book is coming together! I have some more work to do on the last and final chapter where I’m using both prompts and resources. It’s pretty cool. And I’m launching this week! Subscribe here to not miss it: akoskm.gumroad.com/l/mcp What are your plans?

One thing that now takes only seconds: Comparing different salaries, full-time, contractor, number of days off, and other benefits. What seemingly looks like a lot better offer, if you deduct the vacations and days off, turns out I would work 20% more for $15/day.

Did you know you can make links clickable in the output of your MCP Server tool call? Simply format the returned text content as markdown:

GM devs! Training first thing in the morning keeps me calm when Claude tells me, "Oh, you're right," five times in a row. 😂 Are you done with your morning workout?

Last year, I switched to a full-time gig because I wanted to see what happens at scale. I was always shipping SaaS/apps to mid-sized clients. Here, it's massive data pipelines, petabytes of data, and enterprise clients who rely on your software to keep ticking. This is cool.

The simplest way to build a full-stack React application is: react-router This gets you set up with Vite Vitest TypeScript Eslint Prettier

Do you mean to reorder tasks? You can’t reorder, but can drag & drop to replace the task in the Today column

When doing continuous integration, I see this workflow when people update their local copies: - git stash - git checkout main - git pull - git checkout <your branch> - git merge main You can just do this:

Not your typical indie hacker day, but today I: - Moved from Supabase Edge function to a simple API to make the app easier to self-host. - Documented the encryption/decryption process and added a Security Overview document. I wouldn't put my kid's data anywhere without this.

Revert the files to their version @ branch. Useful if you realize Cursor accidentally ran over unrelated files and you already checked them into version control. 😅

In 2014, I made the biggest bet of my life. I switched from Java to JavaScript. Left 5 years of knowledge behind. It paid off handsomely, but today, after 11 years, I'm doing it again. From tomorrow, it's all Go.

Super long day 😫 Lots of driving, dentist appointment, work from a coffee shop, work from home, it was all over the place. But I'm glad I used my last two brain cells to put together a landing page for my next app.

I'm struggling to get myself to build a landing page, so inspired by @heyandras.dev's recent post, I made a watchOS app this morning 😄 The problem: - my little daughter is interested in my Apple Watch's screen The solution: - an app that turns the display into a blank screen 🤷‍♂️

Here's a demo of the full dictation feature: "My kid had a mild cough, but hot tea helped within 10 minutes." Did it using @supabase.com edge functions and OpenAI Whisper. This was the last step, feature-wise. Next task: landing page. I appreciate your support 🙌

I've spent the weekend adding this button to my next project. 😅 It looks simple on the surface, but it lets parents record symptoms and solutions using dictation. Super handy since new parents usually have their hands full! Hopefully, I'll have a landing page this week 🚢

Getting in the reps with the new app. As part of the UI improvements, I replaced the numeric rating input with ⭐ Since, as a parent, your hands are usually full, especially when the kiddo is sick, dictation is coming as the final feature before launch. Your data is always encrypted.

Big UX enhancement landed in my next project. Initially, the symptom+solution recording started as one big form, but I broke it down into a two-step wizard.

I love the Bolt experience, but the Cursor/Windsurf combo worked better for my use case. However, I signed up for a couple of similar services, and some I forgot to cancel, so now I'm throwing away $20 🤦‍♂️ Is there an app that can help prevent this from happening?

Akos @akoskm.com · 15/03/2025
Made some simple tweaks to OneTaskX: - Archive feature: you can put tasks on hold or that you don't want to do in the near future - Double click to edit task description (Edit is still available from the menu) P.S.: I coded this by hand because I'm out of tokens 😆

I really wanted to make onetaskx signup-less and just use QR codes and WebRTC to sync stuff between devices, got 🤏 close to it but there are so many moving parts and edge cases that I abandoned the idea. Adding more features you can use locally.

My next project, Kid care cards, is in the making 👼 After reading up a bit on App Store developer experience, I decided to port the React Expo setup to a PWA architecture. It has the same features: - track multiple symptoms and solutions - multiple kids - encryption

The little tool I'm building ended up on the 4th place on Product Hunt. Pretty big deal since I didn't expect anything from the launch. 😄 Thanks to everyone who supported me. One Task X is a PWA app that requires no signup or login. Everything is saved on your device.

don't forget to update the year in your footer I've been doing this for over a decade as a senior software developer. Sometimes, I have to tweak the decimals, but gladly, I have to change this code once a year!

first upgrade of the year been thinking about a @nuphystudio keyboard since I saw it on @Aivars_Meijers channel, missed the black friday deal and felt bad 😄 now I'm thrilled the keyboard feels premium, I got some extra keycaps, extra switches to try, a keychain, some stickers
