Down to UK media, which's dominated by the right, including the BBC, which has been compromised after 14 years of Tory rule. The comment below says it all. Since when does a news service have to 'win' over anyone, let alone a far-right politcal party?. They have to deliver accurate news, that's all.

These laws show the exact opposite with regards to land and civic rights for palestinian Isrealis. Not mention the recent death penalty laws and banning of palestinian parties from standing in the elections.

With regards to Ireland, it has always been recognised as a british colony like India. Northern Ireland is more complicated but is agreed to be effectively part of both countries due to freedom of movement. Palestinians have none of the rights Northern Irish have in Ireland or Britain under Zionism

The creation of the state of Isreal as a jewish state required the expulsion of 4M palestians and hundreds of thousands kiled. Scottish, Welsh nationalism doesnt involve any of that and they already occupy contiguous teritory with definitive borders.

I dont think most antizionists have a problem with the existence of a multi ethnic Isreal with equal constututional and land rights for palestians amd jeews and reparations for those who lost thier homes in 1948 after the Nakba.

The so called centre and centre left parties only opposition to Netanyahu is his corruption ad how loudly he has gone about his crusade. They have rutinely abstained from voting for bills to expand west bank settlements and laws to execute palestinians

The opposition to Netanyahu in Isreal from the centre left is due to corruption, many of these parties abstained thier votes for west bank expansion and laws to execute palestinians

This coming from a secular Indian who has to live with people constantly spouting acid about an India free of muslims, an India for hindus like it was a 1000 years ago. Sound familiar...?

What about the feelings of the millions of palestinians displaced from thier homes in 1947, those hundreds of thousands murdered and maimed, and thier families left to deal with trauma. Gaza has highest percentage population of adolescents, children, and child amputees.

Wafling on about what an ideology means to different people and protecting thier precious feelings is an absolute mistake. The only thing that matters is the pernicious impact of on palestinians since 1948. I would implore people to read about Herzl and Ben gurion.

Not forgetting that Sunak had to release 10,000 prisoners early as a result of 14 years of Tory failure to sort out prison capacity. That's the Sunak Govt that Badenough and Philp were both Ministers in.

The state of this. A lovely day out for Badenoch and Philp, playing dress up and making pronouncements about early release schemes - having left the country with one hundred available men's prison places, after fourteen years in charge. You read that right. One hundred places.
Opposition Leader Kemi Badenoch and Shadow Home Office Secretary Chris Philp, in high-vis police jackets enjoy a photo opportunity.

The key lies in how efficiently the printed money ends up circulating through the economy in its first few cycles of use. If it produces labour that improves supply side conditions and creates wage growth while doing so it is not a problem otherwise things can crumble quickly

I am with you 100%, I would add that economic policy in this regard is a confidence game and whose success depends on public trust. Inflation and Supply shortages are usually self fullfilling prophesies

Another good solution would be try an genericise more and more drugs and invest in infrasture and public research into new drugs. This works very well in India with extremely low prices for most drugs. This reduce susceptability to tariff and give the NHS more bargaining power with priv pharma corps

Ultimately the scrapping of VAT on electricity is a political decision one simply for the opposition to not have another cudgel to beat them with. I expect them to give consent for roaebank as well for the same reason. None these will really make a dent to the ever increasing cost of living

These supply side inflations have proven to be really sticky partly due to producers being squeeze consumers due to perception of future inflation. In this particular case with I believe we will feel the cost of this war for years to come

It entirely depends how that printed money is used. One way could be for capital and labour investment in Farming and working toward public grocery stores with direct producer to consumer interaction, cutting out margins for large grocery chains and forcing them to compete on supply and demand side.

So ultimately I believe your anecdote demonstrates the fact that really no reduction in immigration will resolve people insecurities with regards to core economic challenges created by 40 years of poor economic planning.

In terms of social housing and house prices specifically there is not much evidence immigration has any material impact. Immigration demand for housing tends to be on the private rental market and mostly HMOs.

Denmark has a net migration of around 19 thousand, 71% arriving on work and study visas, people are still angry about migration with a growing far right vote share. This raises 2 questions, 1 what further compromise will satisfy these people to bess less angry, 2 is it worth the economic vandalism

But if the message is to compromise on immigration policy, my point was to demonstrate it catagorically does not work.

That and not knowing what thier voting coalition is. They are still holding onto the idea of a big tent and the tradional labour voter of the 70s not realising how much that coalition has shifted in 2026 and even if building such a broad church is possible with a splintering voter base

akkig.bsky.social @akkig.bsky.social · 20/07/2026
I think it comes down to identifying the coalition. Many in the party still hold on to union movement past of the 70s which had signigicant socially conservative element. I dont beleive at the moment there is enough of a coalition of socially liberal+ economical left wing people who vote in numbers
000 0
akkig.bsky.social @akkig.bsky.social · 20/07/2026
Yes and no because many are economically speaking on the left but are socially consevative hence the strength of the union movement that brought that coalition together. Many do not consider black and brown folks as deserving to part of thier society

Ultimately I feel Foriegn secretary is a diminished position with Britains declining reach in the last 2 decades, its a safe place to park people away without hurting any feeling. It is not really a great office of state anymore, I would say health secretary is much higher priority now

Most grid operators now simoly outsource these to specialised contractors. Bust since contractors have a monopoly things cost more in the long run and have a massive backlog of works. One example is Openreach whom the entire industry contracts to lay fibre for our grid communications layer

Most of those roles I mentioned apart from protection engineers are purely developed vocationaly by starting through apprenticeships but in house training takes lot of time and resources. There has been significant brain drain in these roles due to a slowdown in grid projects post privatisation
