Unrelated to this, but wow, from a 2006 interview with Kelly Reichardt:

Reichardt answers, " People in the radio station are also arguing and not coming to an understanding. It sounds like loud talk radio, and I think it's reassuring in a way, because if you are in the Left it is very easy to feel righteous right now about so many things. But that doesn't solve anything either. One of the voices in the beginning is Robert Kennedy Jr., and he and the callers are discussing Lyndon B. Johnson, making the argument that LBJ, by signing the Voting Rights Act gave the South to the Republicans. Ironically it's Robert Kennedy Jr. who is making this argument. As a viewer you experience these crazy, arguing voices, and by the tone of it you encounter politics."

This is a minor plot point, but I had a very different take on who was being passive aggressive in this situation...

An excerpt from the plot description from the wikipedia page for Old Joy. It reads: Mark is a former hippie who has settled down in Portland, Oregon and is expecting a child with his wife Tania. His old friend Kurt, who has not seem Mark in some years, calls Mark to invite him on an overnight camping trip to Bagby Hot Springs in the Cascades. Unlike Mark, Kurt still lives a hand-to-mouth hippie lifestyle, crashing on couches and spending much of his time at meditation retreats. When Mark accepts Kurt's invitation, Tania reacts passive-aggressively. Mark invites Tania, but she declines.

In the excerpt the last two sentences are highlighted

Just responded to a text and absolutely eviscerated the person by not ending my sentence in an exclamation point. Ruthless. Brutal takedown. Hold me back.

A text that says “ok, see you there”

Notably, there is no punctuation at the end of the sentence.

Just finished volume 3 and wow, this was sooo good! This comic is about a lot of things, but I love that, at its core, it’s a story about passionate comic book editors and their efforts to put great art into the world.
