Call for Social Psychology Special Issue Proposals
Adam K. Fetterman With this in mind, we are putting out this call for Special Issue proposals. You can read more about what we are looking for in the above linked Editorial, but here are the basic ideas and styles of Special Issues we are looking for:

    1.
Lay Down the Gauntlet: Guest Editors pose an ongoing argument (e.g., the importance of moral concerns in everyday life), and researchers submit their work that addresses this argument.
    2.
Empirical Contests: Guest Editors pose a single problem (e.g., reducing conspiratorial thinking), and researchers propose and test their solutions via registered reports.
    3.
Theoretical Debate: Guest Editors write a theoretical article and then invite commentaries on that article, followed by a rebuttal.

In each of these cases, the Special Issue is aimed at starting conversations that will have a strong impact on social psychological theory and the field. Of course, Guest Editors are not limited to the aforementioned styles or structures of Special Issues. We are open to all types and topics.

Social Psychology is excited to announce our new Editor-in-Chief, @akfetterman.bsky.social, who started his role on Sept. 1st. Adam will publish his vision for the journal in an upcoming editorial. Stay tuned for regular updates, new articles, flashbacks to past articles, & calls for special issues.
“Social Psychology has been an excellent outlet for not only a wide range of topics in social psychology, but also for critical examinations of our field, as was seen with the successful special issue on replicability. I am excited to continue developing this identity by creating good controversy and debate within its pages. My goal is to further establish Social Psychology as a leading journal for quality, open and transparent, and exciting science, befitting of its name. I am excited for the next 4 years of journal and to see what new discoveries it helps produce.”

Not everyone has endless resources to create a paper factory. So, no, I don't think it is cool to hear someone's idea, run a bunch of studies, & publish them, before they can even get their first study done. Perhaps, if you think you can implement their idea better or quicker, try to include them?

The book is my effort at a coherent story of religious belief and atheism *from a scientific perspective.* As I’m focusing on the science, I don’t dwell overly much on the New Atheists. Why not? Because *they never seriously engaged with the science.* New Atheism didn’t get the science right. 🧵2

A line of work in my lab right now is how powerful personal experience for believing data/science. It's building on classic Kahneman/Tversky work & I think it's more powerful than most give credit. Ppl struggle when their experience doesn't match the science/data. Seeing is believing.

Not sure why this irritates me, but the NY Times keeps referring to Beryl as "Tropical Storm" in headlines, but "Hurricane" in the details. Maybe referring to Beryl's state at the time of writing? But, what hit the Houston region was a Hurricane. TSs do not cause the destruction we saw in Houston.
Picture of a destroyed coastal A-frame house. "Tropical Storm Beryl hit Houston, killing at least four people and knocking out power for more than two million customers across Texas." "Hurricane Beryl caused flooding and damage on the coast of Texas. Meridith Kohut for The New York Times"
