Our Cognition group seminar just listened to Prof Michael Oyenuga talk about his new paper. I definietly recommend reading it. It sparked a great debate and reflection about research integrity this Friday afternoon. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

A 2:1 or above 'in any discipline' is what employers in finance and insurance as well as trade and logistics look for. In Tech and IT: 'degrees ranging from nursing, biomedical science, art, languages, humanities, business, economics and law'. So study something you're genuinely interested in.

Hello, some of you formerly on Twitter may remember that during the pandemic, someone had a thread with the (usually quite old) most inspirational, ground-breaking, seminal papers. I am no longer on Twitter, forgot to save it, but I would love to get back to it. Did anyone save it, by any chance?

Apparently, it was implied that they can do either or, and the question was about whether I requested a collection. As a direct native language speaker, 21 years on, I still find this baffling. (my car was 'hit an run' one night by some local Muppet) #clarityiskindness

From the 'Indirect language hell' book: Garage: Do we need to collect the car? Me: Insurance said the car is driveable, so idk. G: Are we collecting it from your address? M: Idk, I was hoping you can tell me? G: We can either collect it or you can drop it off, up to you *audibly exasperated*.

Hello Psychology Bluesky - does anyone know an open data depository where I could send Research Methods students to find datasets? I had a link to an OSF repository, but it no longer works after the revamp. Thank you!

I just got the student-led teaching award nominations in my inbox and commenced my annual crying session. Honestly, whenever I have doubts about the academic career, I think - 'but working with students and ECRs...' and, let's be honest - I will die an academic and a teacher.

This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.

I literally started my 1st Research Methods class yday with 'Blue Monday' as an example of how some claims lack sci evidence and how we will learn to better distinguish anecdotes from facts. Disappointed with Zoe- for a company that claims to be science-informed, this is poor choice of advertising.

After a streak of paper rejections, a lovely R&R landed in my inbox last night- a paper co-written with a fantastic MSc student last Autumn. I am so excited about this, especially as this is a bit outside of my usual research topic. 🤩

I think bookings may work after all, but you set this up as a service and need to get student RA's staff accounts with appropriate permissions. Still to be resolved, but at least it's looking promising now.

Thanks a lot. I made an account but the options it gave me were 1:n or n:1 (experimenters:subs) & we need n:n. We have a double testing set up with multiple RAs and two participants per slot. I wanted to automate as much of it as possible as the SOP is complicated, but maybe I just can't this one :/

Anna Bobak @akbobak.bsky.social · 19/10/2025
Not sure if I am explaining this correctly, but as far as we see, nothing has the capability to handle multiple experimenters and multiple participants (per slot). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anna Bobak @akbobak.bsky.social · 19/10/2025
Looking for advice on booking system that is usable for multiple lab members (students and staff) & where more than one participant can book the same slot (2) using a direct link. A link that would display all slots to book from and once two 'spaces' are taken per slot, disappears from view. 1/n

Please could you link some reading about the within and between corrections? We have written about the within correction (or rather reported the maximum expected correlation given the reliability), but I would be keen to learn more about it! Thank you!

When calculating a correlation we sometimes apply a correction for attenuation due to reliability. Has anyone ever suggested a similar correction for a between-groups comparison? After all, reliability of the DV affects those the same way (and they are often just a dichotomised correaltion).
