Felt this very strongly in the first Control too. As soon as you get Levitate the shape of the world changes in a way that makes it so much more fun to navigate. Growth arcs are important and cool and all but I like them less when they make me feel like I'm being starved in the first half.

The stuff they *added* to the world in Cataclysm is almost universally cool, tbh, I'll miss it too. It just shouldn't have come at the cost of destroying a bunch of stuff people liked, and making the world feel so much smaller by letting you fly over all of it.

Look Mulgore might be the bottom of my rankings for horde starting areas, but I can't pretend it sucks, it is still a solid B. I'd do Mulgore over Teldrassil or Dun Morogh any day of the week

Should have said advertised, instead of guaranteed, whatever

010

Evan Lewis @akaleth.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

For specifics: I paid a $70 entry fee, top 8'd, and for my efforts I received $100 worth of prize wall tickets, w/ the privilege of paying another $250 to get the cheapest dual in the pool. It looks like they may not have another event anyway, but if they do, don't go, it ain't worth it.

010

Evan Lewis @akaleth.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

Yeah so this was because Excalibur Events gutted the prize pool for an event that guaranteed duals once the turnout was low. Very unsurprised to see their next event canned and frankly insane that they, on their own Facebook page, for their own event cancelation, cite issues "plaguing" their events.
