54. Oh Sees - Face Stabber. really fucking good heavy psychedelic garage rock. the exact kinda repetitive earwormy stuff i like. John Dwyer is a guitar god and i keep trying to talk my band into getting a second drummer because of this album but they keep turning me down

53. Lourdes - Oh God (WCWM Session). not really an album but when am i ever gonna talk about this. it's a live-in-studio session by a college band at the College of William & Mary in like 2012 that Will Toledo was briefly involved with in some form. it's really nice kinda soft indie rock

cover to the EP(?) Oh God by Lourdes. it's a photograph of a beaded necklace of some kind, with interchanging small red and large cyan beads. i don't know the significance of it and for the longest time i thought it was just some random image someone attached to the album on last.fm but nope this was the cover on bandcamp back when this was on bandcamp

52. Lil Ugly Mane - Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern. the first time I heard this album was in my friend Bea's dad's car as he was driving us somewhere. I was half asleep and this album kinda took over my conscious. took me a couple months to relisten and realize just how good it really is

51. Half Japanese - Our Solar System. probably my favorite of their earlyish material. carries a lot of punky garage rock energy and features really good wailing saxophone throughout

50. Spring Silver - Don't You Think It's Strange?. insanely fucking good post-hardcore. i bought a CD off of K at a listening party they did in Brooklyn for their new album (which is also stupidly amazing and needs to be listened to by Everyone when it comes out), worth every dollar

49. The Apples in stereo - Her Wallpaper Reverie. a very weird album structurally. really only has like seven songs with the rest of the runtime taken up by brief variations on the same motif, but god damn if it's not some of if not the best set of songs The Apples ever recorded

48. The Animals - The Animals. one of my many Specific Mildly Embarrassing Musical Weaknesses is, for some reason, british rhythm & blues. something about the like amateurish yet polished takes on the R&B songbook for reasons unexplained tickle my fancy like not much else does

47. Guided by Voices - Bee Thousand. took me an embarrassingly long time to get to this album. perfect pop played and recorded imperfectly is My Thing

46. The Holy Modal Rounders - The Holy Modal Rounders. probably my favorite album from the whole Greenwich folk revival scene. guitar, fiddle and banjo that screams appalaicha but sung lyrics that take it in much weirder and brainy places. first recorded use of the word "psychedelic" on record too

I say this only because it would be a worst-case outcome for me if anyone who was queer, trans, a woman, or person of color felt that music made on my watch was, politically, "not for them." I would consider this antithetical to the base intent of rock music. Particularly in light of a creeping conservatism and religiosity not just in society at large, but in the alt/indie spheres as the music shifts ever further from its working class builders and towards ivy league yuppies and trust fund kids.
