It's actually a reduction, although article is unclear on the mechanism.. It's like they've built an AI to generate the most clickbait headline based on the training data over time...
Greenwell said the urban benefits of all schools being required to enrol all local students who applied included reduced traffic, house prices and pollution.
“There’s not much point in having a 15-minute city if families routinely hop in the SUV and drive 45 minutes or more to do the drop-off,” he said.

Why do you think there needs to be separate markets for long duration storage? The example linked is 8hrs+ which is hardly seasonal shifting.. And stating that without markets projects don't get built ignores that the vast majority of hydro assets were built by and/or for government.

Sliding doors for a bomber fan - what would have happened if Fagan came to the bombers 10 years? Could he have rescued the rotten culture? www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/ne...
Schwab had wondered if Fagan was genuinely interested in coaching.
After a three-hour meeting, they had their answer.
Lions chairman Wellington, then on the board, said although there were many factors behind the Brisbane turnaround, "the decision to appoint Chris ... I think is the most significant of all the various factors."
At the urging of Daniher, for whom Fagan had served as right-hand man for most of their Demon days, Essendon had sounded out Fagan for their senior coaching role at the end of 2015. The Dons would opt for the safe hands of John Worsfold to lead them through the crisis of mass suspensions.
Fagan's success has re-defined the role of senior coach as one that is

3 free works for me. If you have a decent amount of flexible load (EV, hot water, dryer, dishwasher, heating) then it's worth it even at the prices mentioned in the article. I still think a price signal to not waste energy is a better idea, in Vic wholesale prices at midday today were $100/MWh..

Good to see the headline writers don't understand the difference between 99th %ile threshold and average of the top 1% (the latter of which would be skewed by Atlassian billionaires)..
SMH headline:
In this Sydney suburb you need to earn $6.3m to be in the top 1%: How does your area compare?

In the article, %6.3m is the avg of the top 1% not the actual threshold..

Good chat between @mliebreich.bsky.social and Paul Simshauser on Australia's energy transition. I will point out that a market cap of $23k/MWh is $23/kWh, and >50k retail customers of Amber will see this either in expensive lamb roasts or massive export income.. www.cleaningup.live/how-renewabl...
So we have, you only get paid when you produce in our spot electricity market. What that means is we have an extremely high market price cap, it's a little over AU$20,000 a megawatt hour on a bad day.

ML
And we should translate that into what people's bills, if you do that on a kilowatt hour basis, it is AU$2 per kilowatt hour, where normally your prices that you'd pay, your average for the year would be 25, 27 cents. Electricity markets can get very, very complex.

Nah, can't see any world where you'd be able to heat the home, have hot water, and charge the EV all off solar in the middle of winter in New Zealand or any of the southern parts of Australia. We definitely need grid plus hydro and wind. Maybe if you're in Queensland you could go off grid?
My energy use for June including solar, showing consumption is quadruple solar production.

Not much curtailment in the south (Victoria) in Winter. Solar curtailment: June 2026 - 7 GWh Dec 2025 - 126 GWh IMO the 3 free should only be 8 months a year, otherwise induced demand might increase fossil use.. Stats va explore.openelectricity.org.au/energy/vic1/...

Re "..but also see questions asked about the government’s line that new gas is needed to back up renewables.." Isn't this line coming from the ISP such per below (and further on page 16)?
From executive summary

The 2026 ISP reaffirms that renewable energy, connected by transmission and distribution, firmed with storage
and backed up by gas, presents the least-cost way to supply secure and reliable electricity to consumers
through to 2050, as coal plants retire and while meeting government policies.

But didn't realise claude effort was on medium so downgraded to low and ran in incognito and it gave the IEA figures, but with the caveat.
Fuel
Energy
Emission Factor
MtCO₂-e
Coal

0.341 MtCO₂/TWh¹
25.6
Gas
190 TWh
0.202 MtCO₂/TWh²

64.0
How it's calculated:
1 TWh = 3,600,000 GJ, so:
Coal: 94.6 kg CO₂/GJ × 3.6M GJ/TWh = 0.341 Mt/TWh
Gas: 56.1 kg CO₂/GJ × 3.6M GJ/TWh = 0.202 Mt/TWh
One flag: if your TWh figures are electricity output (not fuel input), you'd need to divide by a heat rate/efficiency factor first (~35–40% for coal, ~45–55% for gas), which would roughly double the emission factors. Let me know which applies and I can adjust.

I put your original prompt (no mention of electricity) through ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude 4.5 and 4.6 (all free). The only one that referenced the IEA figures was Gemini but it said this was the thermal value and also gave the correct values for electricity generation.
Scenario A: Primary Energy / Direct Fuel Combustion
Use this if the TWh values represent the heat/thermal energy content of the raw fuels being burned.
According to international benchmarks (IPCC/IEA averages), the typical direct combustion emission factors are:
Coal: \approx 0.341\text{ }MtCO_2\text{-}e\text{ per TWh}
Natural Gas: \approx 0.202\text{ }MtCO_2\text{-}e\text{ per TWh}
The Calculations:

Total Emissions (Scenario A): 63.96\text{ }MtCO_2\text{-}e
Scenario B: Electricity Generation Output
Use this if the TWh values represent the actual electricity produced by power plants and fed into a grid.

Andrew Starr @ajsta.bsky.social · 18/06/2026
Specify electricity in your prompt and any model from the last 18 months will get the ballpark 160 MTCO2-e.
Using standard Australian NGA (National Greenhouse Accounts) emissions intensity factors for electricity generation:
