When we discuss public transport in Australia, we often forget to mention how it's possible to buy a pie, a potato cake/scallop/fritter, or a flat white while you wait for your train. #train #trains #urbanism

@tom_andraszek I think we've got a not dissimilar reference point. For me, its Laisves alėja in Kaunas (in Lithuania). There's two rows of trees down the middle. There's park benches under many of those trees. The generally accepted rule is that you […] [Original post on social.vivaldi.net]

There's two rows of trees, with the centre corridor typically used by cyclists.

There's a wide pedestrian footpath either side if the trees.

There's a wide pedestrian space either side of the trees in the middle. Buildings are typically around 3 to 4 storeys tall.

Cafés and small shops with outdoor dining line the sides of the street.

@kerenlavelle.bsky.social @bastardsheep There really is a huge difference in seating angles at somewhere like the State Theatre, compared to Riverside.

State Theatre. A clear, unobstructed view of the stage, despite being a long way back.

My photo of inside the State Theatre. Note the angles. it's also just a superb venue with ornate details and a Grand chandelier.

Also in the State Theatre. Note how in the higher rows the row in front is at knee height to the row behind it.

Riverside Theatre's own photo. Note tge shallow incline.

@bastardsheep.com The river and Church St frontage is the *good* side of the building. It's worse around the back. Feeling inspired to watch some theatre?

The view from the park across the street. Ideally, thus street would be pedestrianised so there's access from the theatre to the park.

On Marsden St, there's just a car park. And a giant mass of red and cream bricks with teal details.

@bastardsheep.com I swung by Australia's least inspiring performing arts building earlier today to take some photos. Renovator's delight is being kind... #arts #auspol #nswpol

The main entry to the theatre on Church St.

Canadian singer-songwriter Alessia Cara has announced she's suspending the US leg of her upcoming world tour. You can probably guess why… #music #AlessiaCara #Trump #Musk #Canada

Instagram post by Alessia Cara. It reads:

hello friends,

it's breaking my heart to say do this, but I unfortunately have to postpone the US leg of the Love & Hyperbole tour. not to be vague or cliché, but there are truly so many factors that lead to this (reluctant) decision, all of which were genuinely and completely out of my control. touring, especially today, is challenging and involves so many little moving parts. bottom line is we couldn't make it all work on time. disappointing you guys is killing me, because everything I've put into this has been for you and I know how excited you've been, but I can only hope you understand. The rest of the tour in Asia, Australia, Canada & Europe will continue as normal. As soon as I have new information on the new US dates, I will let you know. I'm so sorry to everyone who bought tickets (which will all be honoured on the new dates) and planned trips around these shows. I love you so much. I can't apologize enough and I'll make it up to you. see you soon.

Love,
[Signature of Alessia]

"The inexpensive labor of incarcerated firefighters is a critical part of the state’s plan to get through wildfire season, which has become, as a symptom of the climate crisis, an almost year-round concern. Roughly 27% of the state’s firefighters were incarcerated in 2018 and 2019, earning mere dollars a day while free firefighters make an average $41.76 an hour. The pandemic exposed the government’s dependency on prison labor after thousands of inmates contracted, were potentially exposed to COVID-19, or were released from prison to limit the virus’s spread, drastically cutting the firefighting workforce."

Bad faith post: "Going to Israel really soon. Going to shoot footage of what it’s like to live in a country constantly under rocket attacks to hopefully show people why Hezbollah needs to be taken out."

Bad faith post example: "The real trans grifters are the ones that took a movement that had made progress for 40 years and destroyed it in five.

"My trans politics are dead centrist. They are the same politics that won us our rights."

Bad faith post dxample: "Got it. So, the goal of
