I dropped contact with one of my parents and went minimum contact with the other not due to differing political views, but because of absolutely horrible behavior directed at me after a major personal tragedy. Not due to therapy or a trivial thing, it's still awful and I don't take it lightly.

Replaced gas clothes dryer and hot water tank when we moved into our house years ago. Once i can afford to replace gas stove i will. Luck have a good vent and window near. Lucky. Not all can afford to replace at a notice.

And it's missing the point that the driver is blocking the cyclist's right of way. The attitude that cyclists should just shrug and "go around" any vehicle, obstacles, persons, mis-using a bike lane is the problem. It puts us in very real potential danger. And it's never just ONE instance.

Strict enforcement is the key. Cameras here are useless. If there's no teeth in the changes, some detrimental effects for drivers it will remain the same. When I commute to work (via bike) I have to trust no driver, ever.

Yes, and the administration of it will be on the NIH terms, not the lead scientist. As a research admin, I don't see how a foreign sub will be efficiently monitored and reported. Who will do it after NIH is gutted further?

I agree too. I tried to have conversations with my maga parents several times. There was no real personal back and forth. They would only spout back Fox news soundbites. I resorted to sending real news snips with documentation. Then they got really angry. So I stopped.

The correspondence coming from the NIH reads as if it was written by high schoolers who had sort of read some of the background information, slapped it into a word doc and handed it off for us to interpret. Which takes 3x as long, involving sometimes several people, before we can act. Efficiency.

A scientist from my workplace was stopped on the street and questioned by ICE. Another is worried about being let back into the US after a family visit overseas. It's recommended by my workplace Visa holders carry copies of all identity and our lawyer's numbers. All good on the science front.

There is an appeals process that can be followed within 30-days of termination if an award is terminated. Note that the NIH IC will not review the appeal; it is reviewed by the same NIH/HHS administration that terminated the award.

Diversity supplements will no longer be awarded. It doesn’t speak to active supplements being termed mid-cycle, but clearly says type 5’s will not receive their next year (future years) funding. If a sub-project under an award is terminated, funds will be restricted and unavailable for rebudgeting.
