Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was the first science-fiction story I ever read. It led to a life-long love of the oceans and the denizens of the deeps. The character of Captain Nemo in particular fascinated me, and he remains one of my favorite anti-hero antagonists. #dailynerdfix

Beavers are absolutely amazing creatures! The engineering feats they manage to achieve are astounding. They are so good at building dams that civil engineers are importing beavers to build natural dams because they work better than human-constructed dams.

Like many who entered the gaming hobby in the 70s, I’ve played my fair share of chit-and-map wargames. FASA’s BattleTech: The Succession Wars (1987) combined the groovy sci-fi mecha setting with classic strategic wargame gameplay. It was a fun “Big Picture” way to enjoy BattleTech! #dailynerdfix

I had a very similar experience, only my intro movie was The Spy Who Loved Me, which aired as an ABC Sunday Night Movie in ‘79 or ‘80. At just 10 years old, I was too young (according to my parents) to be watching any more Bond movies, but that didn’t prevent me from reading all of the books. 😁

11 years ago, I found this little ball of noisy fuzz behind my warehouse. We only meant to foster him until he was old enough to go to a permanent home, but Connie and I ended up falling in love with the little guy. Sure, he grew up to become an asshole, but we still love him. 😻 #caturday
