#Mangrove forests across 27 African nations do not act as disease breeding grounds as historically believed, showing instead that increased mangrove cover is associated with reduced #malaria prevalence. This insight comes from our new study in Global Change Biology: doi.org/10.1111/gcb....

Can we fight malaria by protecting nature? 🌿🦟 New research from our Senegal-Belgium collab is flipping the script. doi.org/10.1017/S003... Why? Because healthy mangroves = more fish = natural mosquito control. 🐟

🌍 More mangroves = less malaria 🦟 Greener mangroves = (slightly) more malaria?🌿 Conservation & mosquito control must go together. Read our new preprint 🔗 ecoevorxiv.org/repository/v... #Malaria #Mangroves #Biodiversity

Day 5 of the 3rd expedition to the Saloum exploring the disease landscape of #mangrove forests affecting humans and fishes, funded by @fwovlaanderen.bsky.social in collaboration with Oumar Sadio from @ird-fr.bsky.social. Many fishes and mosquitoes were caught, which we will study further in the lab.
