Leave the Leaves!
One of the most valuable ways to support pollinators and other invertebrates is to provide them with the shelter they need to survive the winter. Thankfully, all you need to do is do less yard work.

Invertebrates in big trouble: www.buglife.org.uk/blog/governm... data.jncc.gov.uk/data/5226c2c... #Insects #Invertebrates #Entomology #Environment
A UK Government report highlights Britain’s overseas invertebrates are in great peril. A new report by the JNCC has highlighted just how precarious these special species are. Over three-quarters of all endemic invertebrates are classified as threatened, meaning that they are at a high risk of extinction. Across all endemic plant and animal types, the three species groups with the highest proportion of threatened species were invertebrates, with almost all crustaceans and nearly 9/10 arachnids and insects considered threatened. Despite the clear risk of extinction to so many of the UKOTs endemic invertebrates, they are still overlooked compared to better-known species like birds and reptiles. As a result, there is a desperate lack of data and scientific knowledge about these invertebrates, and very limited conservation action on the ground.

Ivy is a fantastic late flowering plant for pollinators. If you look closely you might be lucky to spot an Ivy Bee! Ivy Bees are common in continental Europe, but they have only fairly recently made the hop across the channel to the UK.

Is organic farming better for the environment than conventional farming?
Organic farming often wins when we compare impacts on one unit of land, but there is no clear winner when we look at impacts per unit of food production.
