Also, weren't those allegations already visible in the files before congress got to see them unredacted? People are acting like he dropped a bombshell, but I'm certain I read those things several weeks ago. Of course, there was no way to see if they ever investigated.

Dowd essentially stated that Kirk was playing with fire by taking things in such a dark direction. That's different from saying he deserved it. Assuming this wasn't a government hit, Kirk had that freedom of speech he so valued. He exercised it exactly how he wanted to, and he died on that hill.

Oh come on. The frustration within the party is totally justified, and there's nothing wrong with giving voice to it or seeking change. The bigger problem is that people DON'T get involved enough. They stay on the sidelines and complain about status quo. People feel powerless, understandably, BUT

I dont buy it after watching the last 10 years play out. Repubs have known awhile they could keep pushing more extreme and only lose a small portion of their voters. Look at those "independents" who weren't sure how they were going to vote this election "because gosh, I don't really like Trump (1/2)

You can take the most moderate, centrist dem and the right will call them the second coming of Mao Tse Tung, just like they would with a more progressive candidate. For those susceptible to that message, it doesn't matter who the candidate is. So why alienate the democratic base?

I agree we are seeing crimes against humanity. People are under attack. We are also in an emergency situation because of how quickly this administration is moving. But I think the textbook definition of "humanitarian crisis" is like what we see in Sudan or totally war torn areas.

True. I think of a humanitarian crisis as a very large scale threat to survival, eg. most of the population on brink of starvation. Cutting off electricity in that situation is dire as it ensures more mass fatality. Canada cutting our electricity doesn't have the same motivation or implications.
