Week 4.34 – Festivals, Poisons, Bookshops, Fish And Chips (aka life after sixty)
On Friday morning the weather was stable for about forty-five minutes. I went for a run in Newton Stewart. It turns out that there is more to the town than its main street: houses, old and new, covered in stones, cracked paint, ivy, back alleys and lanes, furrows and rivulets feeding the ever rushing and overflowing river Cree, hidden bridge, hidden churches, barking dogs.

Week 4.33 – Galloway Holidays
Rosi, an Italian woman woman lighter than me in years and stones but not in hair, was telling me that she found me a bit green. How refreshing! say you. Alas, she was referring to my experience in dealing with people with dementia. On the zoom screen we were sharing, her accent rolled my sentence with the gaiety of a pebble falling down the slope of an alpine Summer field.

Week 4.32 – Evendoun (and railways, and stones)
I watched a weird film called Bloodsuckers, courtesy of Mubi once again. This is both the most political and the least scary vampire film I have ever seen, and that includes What We Do In The Shadows. A castaway passing himself as a baron is caught red-handed trying to force the vault of his hostess at night. The hostess is a rich German factory owner.

The Book Sill – Parable of the Talents As for the beating, the tarring and feathering, and the destruction of 'heathen houses of devil-worship', [Jarret] has a simple answer: "Join us! Our doors are open to every nationality, every race! Leave your sinful past behind, and become one of us. Help us…

Week 4.31 – Birds (and other things British) I was recently reminded to use the English words whenever possible, instead of the American ones. The reprimandant made a special case of the word "movie", to which I should prefer "film", being a British passport holder. Fair does. If I fail to do so…

Week 4.31 – Birds (and other things British)
I was recently reminded to use the English words whenever possible, instead of the American ones. The reprimandant made a special case of the word "movie", to which I should prefer "film", being a British passport holder. Fair does. If I fail to do so in the below please feel free to send me a virtual slap on the hand.

Morning in Kyiv after the night missile attack. I opened the windows and let the smoke in. Damage in five city districts. At least two people killed, more wounded. The gap between diplomacy and russia’s actions in the war keeps growing.

London stands in solidarity with Ukraine My message to Ukrainian Londoners: Thank you for the contribution you make to our city. Ukrainians have shown great strength and sacrifice to defend our shared European values and preserve their sovereignty following Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Text reads: "On the third anniversary of the invasion, London stands united with the people of Ukraine".

I chose to be here today, in the heart of Kyiv where flags cry for the fallen heroes. I chose to stay in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. When I can, I choose.
