"Russia is a country of victors" (from a BBC article). More than that, it's a country of Vladimirs and Sergeis. 🤣

I read a long thread on why it's wrong not to block Nazis on bluesky, yesterday. It argued, with a lot of references to eminent theorists, that to engage them was giving them visibility and to block them was an aggressive act that isolates them. I think they were wrong. 1/10

Those of us in the pro-democracy movement can and should hold both of these positions. 1. We unequivocally reject violence. 2. We will unequivocally oppose efforts by this administration to use last night as an excuse to try to suppress criticism and criminalize dissent.

IT WAS ALL SO STUPID
Seriously, you would not believe how stupid it was.
Every day, unrelentingly, just the dumbest stuff, by the absolute worst people., And what made it worse was knowing that we'd brought this on ourselves.

Appreciate this detail from CBS News reporter Jennifer Jacobs. It's an important part of the story that seems to be missing from a lot of comments & coverage.
Replying to
@JenniferJJacobs
The shooting happened on the level above the ballroom where the White House Correspondents Association dinner was.
I don't think people hearing about this -- or even those of us in the room -- realized how far from the president, VP and other guests this incident was. It was on another floor, up some stairs and several sets of security away.
Because the Washington Hilton's hotel and other public spaces were open for other functions, the entire building wasn't secured by the Secret Service, just the specific areas where the WHCA dinner was held, law enforcement officials told @CBSNews
.

We don't have to commit on whether this was a real or staged assassination attempt. As crazy as that is, it's not one of the more important stories of the moment, so let's not waste brain cycles on it.

Not caring about truth or lies is a super power. Like all super powers, it comes with a super weakness, to wit, the inevitable fate of losing one's grip on reality. As we are all forced to witness, these days.

And that, my friends, is why the revolution, when it comes, must be a revolution of law, order, and humanity, not a vengeful an-eye-for-an-eye, do-to-them-as-they-did-unto-you kind of revolution. It has to be corny and boring, because you'll wake up on day 2 and then you'll want that kind of world.

The past participle of 'impeach' should be 'impought'.
Comic-style parody of the town meeting scene akin to the "Free Speech" painting: a disheveled, slouched man with messy hair and flies around his head speaks from a crumpled paper while well-dressed attendees look on with disapproval.

I think the pardon needs to go. If a judge has found that you've broken the law, and you've exhausted all appeals, then why should the president have the power to pardon? At the very least, make it a power of Congress. One Congress can delegate to a committee, maybe, to keep it practical.

I'd say there needs to be a law requiring net worth and investment in defense tech, fossil fuels, and religious orgs clearly displayed next to every public personality on TV, in the US. Sadly, a lot of Americans will find a person more credible if they're "successful patriots."

Nothing says "Team Effort" like starting a war of choice unprovoked and out of the blue, without consulting with your allies, knowing they'd push back, because it's illegal, immoral and and will hurt their interests.
Message on X by DJT: "The United States of America has beaten and completely decimated Iran, both militarily, economically, and in every other way, but the countries of the world that receive oil through the hormuz strait must take care of that passage, and will help - a lot! The US will also coordinate with those countries so that everything goes quickly, smoothly, and well. This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be - it will bring the world together toward harmony, security, and everlasting peace! President Donald J. Trump"

Ah! I just noticed: If the European Commission argues for nuclear energy, it might not ONLY be their boneheaded refusal to let go of last century's tech. It might also be because France's nukes aren't enough to defend the continent against the other nuclear powers. 🙁
