Has this guy ever had one idea expressed publicly that wasn’t some version of “dems should moderate?” Also let’s please stop entertaining pundits who argued in favor of the invasion of Iraq.

An all timer. I remember exactly where I was when I read that article. I swear that postseason was the most fun I had watching baseball.

I always get wrecked by the immune response from COVID/flu shots and the symptoms tend to enter into a feedback loop with my particular flavor of anxiety. This is a very small price to pay for a miracle of a public health measure and for the personal protection against getting sick. Get vaccinated.

Got an alert about this from the “Alberta rats” google alert that I still have active. Maybe they’ll consult me for a sociological perspective if this becomes a continuing story!

The season 3 writing room certainly didn’t talk about it, so why should we?

We’ll probably still get a democratic presidential nominee barnstorming with the ghost of Donald Rumsfeld or something in a few years though.

I’ve been griping for years about the soft rehabilitation of the Bush admin’s reputation under the Trump era. Nice to see him undercut that effort on his own.

I didn’t realize half of the California population posted anti-Delta Smelt articles. Maybe you should revise your thesis.

I think it’s baffling that for years the most popular TV show was a prestige drama about ad execs and instead of inspiring a new golden age of heady advertising campaigns we somehow got the Liberty Mutual “LiMu emu” ads.

Last year I used the approach a friend of mine outlines in this paper and I think I’m going to do so again this year. The main benefit, I think was just clearing up the many mixed messages the students have been getting.

This is fair, but also a part of why it’s frustrating. They may not have broken through in the WS until 2020 but they bullied their way to being the favorite every year for most of a decade before that. Now they’ve added a whole core of other teams’ fan favorites/MVP on top of that.

To be clear, I’m far from an AI booster, but I think it’s worth being clearer about these tools’ capabilities, where the potentials for social harm are, and specifically how they diverge from other technologies that we are or aren’t as critical of, etc. than many people often are.

Andy McCumber @ahmccumber.bsky.social · 18/07/2026

I mean sure, but search engines are already black boxes with layers that are not visible to the user. I agree that LLMs add an additional layer to the process but I’m not convinced that makes it more difficult to be critical.

Yours is a tricky one to describe boringly lol.

010

Andy McCumber @ahmccumber.bsky.social · 17/07/2026

The implication there seems to be that we can uncritically trust the results of a google search. Like, yeah, you should be critical of what an LLM returns for you, but that’s always been the case with search engines.

If i recall, the @fivefourpod.bsky.social hosts had a similar take recently, arguing Democrats should message that, when they take back power, there will be consequences for ICE agents accused of wrongdoing (or even all agents). Beyond abolishing ICE. I’m glad this idea is becoming more mainstream.

Even though I made it in time, it was upwards of $1,000 to get both our cars out of impound. But I was lucky that I was an academic working from home or else it would have been even more expensive. I was lucky also that my car wasn’t closely linked to my livelihood.

010

Andy McCumber @ahmccumber.bsky.social · 18/06/2026

Once my partner and I both had our cars towed outside our house because of (confusingly labeled) road work. They told me at the police station there was a hefty fee if I didn’t get to the impound lot before they closed at 5 (it was 4:30 or so). Basically a default charge if you happen to work 9-5.
