My new (and so far most effective) strategy for dealing with the charity muggers outside London stations: telling them that I am actually pro-knife crime, unfortunately.

The whole thing has been handled dismally by Saints. Closed ranks early and doubled down on it. Really poor.

Maybe I need to embrace "football bants" (I won't), but I am not sure an official club account should essentially be glorifying this. Eckert has got off very lightly, so just keep your head down and show a bit of dignity. I'm sure most Southampton fans will love it, but it is just a bit... unseemly?

Oh, no. I can assure you that we absolutely do understand.

Despite that, some positives from the four games - especially the two away performances. I suppose tonight might at least make clearer why Clarke made some of the decisions he did, and why he should be remembered as a very good Scotland manager. Time will tell whether Pocognoli reaches his level.

Andrew Mackenzie @ahmackenzie.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
No need to lose the head, of course - and some of the reactions have been too much. It's a new manager, new system, some new players. It will take time. But it is a bad result. Probably our worst competitive result since Kazakhstan under McLeish. Hopefully Pocognoli can learn and adapt.

Andrew Mackenzie @ahmackenzie.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Tough night for Pocognoli and Scotland. Not sure the players have that system in them against any half-competent team. CBs overaggressive, high line exposed, press disjointed. I think that system only really works when you are possession-dominant and have rapid CBs, neither of which apply just now.

It looked to me, as an intelligent and entirely objective observer, that Scotland really missed big Scott McKenna out there tonight.

The mediocre player who used to play for my favourite team's rivals was terrible tonight and must never play for Scotland again. The player of basically the same standard who used to play for my favourite team would have completely changed the game and must start every game going forward.

It likely doesn't help that we have had the midweek evening kick-offs at home, and the players need to give the fans something to feed off, but the Hampden atmosphere is largely a myth these days.

Maybe not a surprise given he got a £30m move to the Premier League in the summer, but whenever I watch Northern Ireland, Shea Charles just looks head and shoulders above everybody else on the park.

I haven't been following it too closely, but have seen some of Ferguson's interviews and he seems to be taking it about as seriously as you would expect Barry Ferguson to take being Rangers manager in a thing like this.

A truly humbling aura loss, as I walked into the Zara menswear section, realised I was almost certainly the oldest there, walked back out in under twenty seconds, and made a beeline for M&S. It might actually be over. I might actually be cooked.

Absolutely. Same for Aberdeen, in fairness, although we have at least had some success stories over the last decade. But under Thelin we seemed to basically block out academy graduates in favour of mediocre loanees. Marshall was on his way out of the door until a last minute U-turn, by all accounts.

Clubs like Celtic need to be braver, though. Fans being unreasonable, or a bit dismissive of homegrown players, isn't likely to change. If there is no clear pathway, or they aren't producing talent capable of stepping up, that is a structural (and possibly cultural) issue as much as a personnel one.

Andrew Mackenzie @ahmackenzie.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
It is quite a bad reflection on Celtic, and perhaps how they view homegrown players, that they couldn't back themselves to get a tune out of Stephen Welsh.

Remarkable, given they had such a long look at (and overturned) two on-field decisions that could have been defended, that they haven't intervened on the one that can't really be defended. An extremely harsh red card for McKenna.

Very good questioning. He was maybe a touch prickly at points, but I am perhaps being unfair (or he just anticipated a succession of softballs on rowies and whether he knows ACC leadership is evil incarnate).

I am often asked what my priority would be if I was the prime minister. 1. Build 5 large modern day prisons. 2. While the prisons are under construction I would recruit 10,000 police and place them through a detailed training program to make their jobs recognised professionals. 3.
While the prisons are being built.Recruit prison officers and make and pay them into respected professionals. 4. I would find the money by cutting back on military expenditure. In fact I would offer soldiers to apply for police or prison officer jobs. 5. My understanding of asylum seekers is that if they are trying to leave an oppressed county where they are in danger, they are supposed to go to nearest safe county. The people arriving on the shores of the UK have passed through plenty of safe countries. I would ask the Royal Navy to stop them arriving.
Comments please . No jokers thanks Lord Sugar
