Loving the shadows and reflections in this one. #StreetPhotography #Leicester
A woman with long dark hair, wearing jeans, carrying a bag and holding her phone, stands on the right side of the frame looking down at her phone, her shadow cast against the wall, lit by a burst of warm golden sunlight striking the upper right of a dark concrete wall. To the left, a wooden double door is cast in deep shadow, crossed by the stark silhouette of a lamppost rising vertically. A reflective metallic building edge runs along the top of the frame.

Next up from my August #StreetPhotography walk around #Leicester.
A man walks briskly from left to right across a dark, shadowed street, silhouetted against a warm sunlit brick wall dominated by a large shadow shaped like a triangle or wedge falling diagonally across it. Above him hangs a white rectangular sign for Leicester Buses, with a multicoloured pinwheel logo of radiating triangular petals and the website address www.leicesterbuses.co.uk. A tall tower building rises in the background on the left, its windows catching the light.

Another from my #StreetPhotography catchup from #Leicester in August.
A view down a gently curving city street towards a tall, white 1960s tower block topped with rooftop antennas, its facade lined with small balconies. On the left, a bright yellow mural covers a brick gable end, depicting a figure in a grey hoodie holding a tray of food, surrounded by bold black organic shapes. Parked cars line the near pavement while a green bus and a person in a motorised wheelchair away from the camera in the distance, beneath a partly cloudy blue sky.

I'm so far behind with my #StreetPhotography editing it's untrue. Here's one from #Leicester back in the August sun. More coming.
Three women walk side by side along a sunlit pavement from left to right, passing Leicester's Secular Hall, a Victorian stone-and-brick building with a large arched gateway fitted with black metal gates, ornate carved busts between arched windows, and a white-framed bay window. The women are captured in perfect sync- the legs and arms of all three are in the same position, indicating they are walking at the same speed. Strong low sunlight casts long, thin shadows of the women and a tall lamppost across the paving towards the viewer. A spiral sign is visible on the dark wall to the far left, and a watermark for Guy Walsh Photography sits in the bottom-right corner.

@zacharyruane.bsky.social and @michellebrasier.bsky.social have both clearly forgotten about BlueSky, but they've both done outstanding work - in fact they've completed comedy and ruined it forever - so if you're in #Dublin next week you should definitely go see this. This piggy had a lovely time.

Saw this on Facebook. Have been facepalming for days. This is why electing a truly progressive government is so difficult. Labour are NOT left wing. Just look at their vested interests.

I've neglected my #StreetPhotography images recently. I've been out and about, but as my editing pile has stacked up, I've been forgetting to post them. Here are some images from a couple of walks around #Leicester back in July.
A street-level photograph of The Ale Stone Freehouse, a traditional two-storey corner pub with a muted blue-grey painted upper floor and exposed red brickwork on the ground floor. A cream signboard reads "THE ALE STONE FREEHOUSE" in bold black lettering. A woman in a blue shirt smokes while leaning against the wall by the entrance door. Trees line the pavement to the left under an overcast sky. A low-angle street photograph featuring a blurred carton of KTC Vegetable Cooking Oil in the immediate foreground. In the background, sharply focused, is the storefront of 'Hope's Barbers', showing the sign 'Art of Traditional Barbering'. A man sits talking to another man standing next to a pushchair outside the shop. A portrait painting of a smiling Gary Lineker (blue shirt, tortoiseshell background, black and white details, painted on a palette) leans against a green brick wall next to a blue door. Two empty wicker chairs sit on the pavement beside the artwork. In the background, a woman wearing a headscarf walks along the pavement past black metal bike racks.A young woman with her hair in a bun walks onto a yellow tactile paving path, looking down at her phone. To her left is a brown fence featuring street art of a large red and white fly cartoon mushroom growing amongst grass. There is a handpainted sign saying "THE ARCHWAY GARDEN THIS WAY" and pointing to the road behind the young woman. A car is parked further down the road in the background under a cloudy sky.

As much as I don't like the camera to do the work for me, sometimes it knows best. A "misfire" from a #StreetPhotography walk around #Brighton a few weeks ago, which is more atmospheric than the shot I wanted to take!
A silhouette of a person balancing/walking on a handrail next to the sea in Brighton. The person appears to be male and holds his hands out as if to balance himself. It appears to be sunset, and there is an orange light reflecting off the sea.

I've noticed recently that a lot of new Green Party members seem to have an expectation of perfection. I felt like this for a long time, so allow me to share my understanding after ten years of membership.

At the start of March, I took my first ever trip to #Bedworth to do some #StreetPhotography. A really interesting town with lots of quirks.
Two people stand on a grassy slope dotted with yellow flowers, beneath a large leafless tree, with evergreen trees and a cloudy sky behind them.A woman pushes a double buggy across a paved area, framed through a bright orange metal fence, with shopfronts in the background. An older man in a cap walks down brick steps holding a plastic bag, seen through a narrow, dark foreground gap (formed by shooting through a decorative fence) that partially obscures the scene. Two people sit on a bench behind a bus stop; one of them (a man) drinks from a bottle while the other (a woman) looks pensively ahead, with a pigeon nearby and greenery and signage behind them.

After the Bold Politics podcast I attended in #Brighton a few weeks ago, I walked back along the seafront with my camera in hand. I made one of my favourite ever #StreetPhotography images. Feel free to play spot the ball!
A dimly lit outdoor basketball court at night, wet from recent rain, reflects the glow of several tall streetlights. The court is painted in muted red and blue, with a single hoop standing at centre. A lone figure stands in silhouette on the court, facing the hoop, their reflection faintly visible on the slick surface. Surrounding the court are darkened walkways, railings, and a curved paved area, with bins and signage barely visible in the background. The overall scene is moody and atmospheric, with strong contrast between the illuminated court and the deep darkness around it.

Some #StreetPhotography from a walk around #Hinckley back in February. For a bit of a challenge, I took out only my 12mm prime lens. I probably won't bother again 🤣
A circular park pond in Hinckley with a central fountain sprays water outward in symmetrical arcs, creating ripples across the surface. Black railings run along the edge of the pond, with glossy dark green shrubs in the foreground and tall leafless trees surrounding the water. Three people stand along the curved path on a grey winter day, one holding an umbrella.A blurred figure with a backpack passes quickly through the foreground beneath a sign reading “Chapel Yard,” mounted on a weathered wall. The wet pavement and overcast light suggest recent rain. Across the street are small shopfronts, including a pet supplies shop with a sign reading “PAWS Claws • Scales,” and other businesses along the high street.A man in a black jacket and light blue jeans walks past while looking down at his phone on a rainy high street. In the centre of the scene, a bicycle locked to a stand is decorated with greenery woven around its frame and basket, with a small sign attached, saying "Fodder & Chisit Deli. Cheese Ham and Artisan". Across the road are shopfronts including a Mind Furniture charity shop, while another pedestrian walks further along the pavement.A large red heart-shaped foil balloon floats inside the window of a restaurant, dominating the foreground. Through the glass, a long wooden table is set for diners with white plates, folded napkins, menus, and small red tealights. The street outside and nearby houses reflect across the window, blending the interior dining scene with the quiet residential road outside. A solitary figure sits on some steps inside the restaurant.

Tonight I popped into #Leicester city centre to capture the Pots and Pans for Palestine protest. Great to hear so many cars honking their support! #FreePalestine
Two protesters stand on a traffic island at night beside a busy road. One person in a bright red coat raises their arm toward passing cars while another holds a cardboard sign reading “Beep 4 Gaza.” Headlights from cars illuminate the scene, and a pub called “The Hind Bar” is lit in the background across the street. The wet road surface reflects streetlights and vehicle lights.A small group of protesters stands at a city centre junction at night, some holding Palestinian flags and signs. One person in the foreground holds a sign reading “Honk for Palestine” while raising an arm toward passing traffic. Cars drive through the intersection with headlights on, and historic-looking buildings and traffic lights frame the background under street lighting.

Some shots from a little #StreetPhotography walk around #Leicester at the end of January.
Narrow alleyway covered in colourful graffiti, leading towards a brick building with an “ethitec” sign, a lone person walking across the top of the passage.Overhead view of two people walking on patterned paving past a red postbox covered in black tape apart from the top, one carrying a backpack, with brick walls and steps nearby. The scene is shot from above, and we see an out-of-focus wall in the foreground. Street corner with “Discount Bazaar” shopfront glowing in the rain, pedestrians carrying umbrellas and a person in a high-visibility jacket crossing the road. The Athena building lit up with red neon signage at dusk, three people walking across rain-slicked pavement towards the entrance. One holds their denim jacket up to protect themselves from the rain, one wears a jacket with "Rock & Roll" written on it in orange, and one carries an umbrella.

Labour have history with the "Greens can't win here" lie. See this propaganda I was sent in #Brighton in 2010, before the wonderful @carolinelucas.bsky.social was elected. People of Gorton and Denton: vote Green if you want a hardworking MP who will work for you. @zackpolanski.bsky.social
Labour leaflet section titled “Greens to come third again?” stating that an independent opinion poll shows the Greens firmly in third place in Brighton Pavilion, behind Labour and the Conservatives, and urging voters to choose Labour to prevent a Conservative government.Labour campaign leaflet text stating: “If you don’t want a Conservative government, vote Labour. A Green protest vote makes a Conservative government more likely. One Green MP changes nothing; a Labour Government makes all the difference.” Includes a bar chart showing Labour leading, Conservatives second, Greens third, and Liberal Democrats fourth, with text saying the Greens are in third place in Brighton Pavilion.

I recently came across the concept of “scaffolding” in educational psychology. It gave me language to explain the gap between knowing what helps, and actually being able to function. Read the article now: open.substack.com/pub/aguyname... #ADHD #Neurodivergent #ADHDCoaching
A blurred photograph of a man, standing against against a plain background. Overlaid white text reads:
“A key part of the scaffolding is the understanding that we all have bad days, whether neurodivergent or not, and empathy and compassion should remain an underlying feature. Fluctuations in performance should be expected, just as with any employee, but the scaffolding gives neurodivergent people the best chance of maintaining consistency.”
Below the quote, smaller white text reads:

ADHD: Coaching vs Scaffolding”
At the bottom of the image, faint text reads:
“AGUYNAMEDGUYUK.SUBSTACK.COM”A blurred portrait-style photograph of a man standing against a neutral background. Overlaid white text reads:
“This is where the current support offering falls down. Most working people can obtain ADHD coaching through Access to Work, but anything else has to be paid for privately. In my case, a combination of therapy and scaffolding support would have been the best approach, but therapy cannot be obtained through Access to Work, and the scaffolding support doesn’t seem to exist as a standalone service.”

At the bottom of the image, faint text reads:
“AGUYNAMEDGUYUK.SUBSTACK.COM”A blurred portrait-style photograph of a man standing against a neutral background, with text overlaid. The overlaid white text reads:
“Even if it did, it would need to be a holistic service that encompassed life outside of work, so it would be unlikely to be something that Access to Work would fund. I’m sure there are some very good ADHD coaches out there that offer this service, but there is no regulation in the coaching sector and as a result, competence across providers varies greatly.”

“AGUYNAMEDGUYUK.SUBSTACK.COM”A blurred portrait-style photograph of a man standing against a neutral background, with text overlaid. The overlaid white text reads:
“The problem isn’t ADHD coaching in itself – it’s the fact that the prescription of coaching is the default response, when scaffolding will, in many cases, be far more appropriate. Coaching can only get you so far – to understanding – and as valuable as this is, understanding has limited value without the function provided by scaffolding.”
