Happened upon this earlier today 😍

GWR 5029 “Nunney Castle”, one of their Castle Class locomotives, calls at Taunton leading a Locomotive Services Ltd charter to Kingswear on the Dartmouth railway, transferring at Paignton from Network Rail tracks onto the heritage line. Behind is 57311 being used as a backup and to power the carriages. These two took over the charter at Bristol Temple Meads, with it being hauled from Paddington to Bristol by 57002

Aberdeen to Penzance ✅ now going to need years of therapy to get over being on a voyager for over 13 hours but eh it was worth it 👍

so these things days are now officially numbered mixed feelings about these. in the 1970s they were a trailblazer, but in the 2020s they’ve become a relic (unfortunately proved by the middle set only a few weeks after this pic was taken) still, I’ll enjoy them while they last

Three ScotRail Inter7City HST sets sit at Glasgow Queen Street, loco numbers 43034, 43140 and 43183, on the 21st July 2020.

Three weeks later, 43140, the loco in the centre of the pic, would be destroyed in the Stonehaven derailment, the first fatal mainline railway accident in the UK since the 2007 Grayrigg derailment, claiming 3 lives, including those of the driver, conductor, and a passenger, as well as injuring 6 others. In the aftermath of the crash, the crashworthiness standards of both the Class 43 locomotives were criticised for failing to provide adequate protection for the driver in a crash, and the carriages were also criticised for their crash performance, both of which were deemed to significantly underperform against modern standards.

BVG Class GI/1E set no. 1073 arrives into Gleisdreieck working a westbound U2 service towards Ruhleben. These trains, commonly known as the “Gisela”, were built from 1978-1989 and developed from the 1974 G stock prototype, known as “Gustav”. The GI/1 units were the final batch built from 1987-1989, and are the only units left in service in Berlin (the rest either scrapped or sold to North Korea). Built by LEW Hennigsdorf, they originally served the East Berlin Line A when the network was split by the Berlin Wall. The old Line A now makes up the eastern section of the U2. Nowadays, these units serve the whole U2, as well as the formerly West Berlin lines U1, U3 and U4 (only occasional use on the U3 and U4). They were extensively refurbished in the mid 2000s, causing them to be reclassified as GI/1E.
