I have to correct this. TIL that endorheic basins can vary greatly and agriculture can be very productive. The Tenochtitlan / Mexico City region is endorheic and had/has extensive chinampa-based agriculture around freshwater lakes within the greater basin.

This farming region is around the sea of Nurnen, which from the description and map looks an awful lot like an endorheic basin with a salty/alkaline lake This would not work as an agricultural region

Mono Lake in California. It's full of salt-encrusted rocks, and the shore is barren, with only a few dead shrubs visible.
