If Harry loses the Ballon d'Or this year to the PR machine ramping up behind Lamine Yamal, we should at least give him a knighthood. The guy is special and yet still, in certain quarters (full of bozos), underrated.

Yeah, I had no idea about some of the earlier stuff. I don't even really remember Canseco but the Bonds/McGwire/Sosa era ruined my sleeping pattern. And the scandals from that era I only remember reading later but I'd stopped watching by then.

Both are mentioned in the video! Absolutely wild. Haha.

A person on YouTube has thankfully, made this wonderful video (2 hours 36 mins) covering baseball's history with drugs and then performance-enhancing ones. It lays the groundwork for what would be both the golden and soiled era of the sport. Not sure it's ever really recovered. youtu.be/-HY8YtawsxM

I've just been down the rabbit hole of what is affectionately known as 'The Steroid Era' of baseball and it is a wild, wild journey. I remember loving it on Channel 5 at the time – a show called 'Live and Dangerous' – and wanting to see the home run derbies, who would break the HR record, etc.

You know what is going a little under the radar during all this Man City drama? The fact the Premier League had no suspicions or weren't actively looking at City's finances in the years following their takeover. As without Rui Pinto, they would have gotten away with it all.

Sadly this is how it has always been. But on the bright side, they/you did get to experience pretty much all of the best things and moments you can following a football team. Even if, for everyone else at least, those achievements feel tainted.

All these people demanding City get kicked out of the league. Why should we get punished too. Thats 6 points we need to finish 17th. Their punishment should be to play us every week

Sadly modern football has taught me to expect disappointment when it comes to upholding regulations and handing out appropriate punishments. And this isn't including the disappointment modern day Spurs bring me, but that's my own doing.

This will be a good indication of how big the PL's cojones are. They have a chance to send a significant message, that cheating won't be tolerated and an example should be made. Or they can get their money back, essentially slap City on the wrist and try to protect the brand value over integrity.

I actually thought the whole "chuck them out of the entire football league" folk were a bit mental but, after reading that PL statement, it actually feels like the only fair solution. And if they want to fight it, squeeze every penny from them until they go bust.

To not be all wishy-washy myself, I don't personally have an objection to anyone still using Twitter or subscribing to a person's substack. I value people more on what they say, how they act and whether they talk just enough sense – in-between all the bollocks – to justify keeping around.

Andy Gaffney @agaff.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Haha. I get what you mean. And ironically, the term totally pure sounds like something from a nazi handbook anyway! It was more a Sunday evening thought of whether we are all guilty of doing or using something that doesn't necessarily line up with our ideals, and how much/whether it matters.

It's hard to find any system, country or organisation that is 'good' these days. You just try and pick the less destructive where possible (or viable). I was just thinking out loud if we are all guilty of maybe doing or using something we don't necessarily agree with.

Sorry, I meant in terms of doing or contributing to something you fundamentally oppose of, are you in turn becoming part of the problem and not the solution? And I know the conversation is different for each person, for varying reasons and perhaps more nuanced than the character limit here allows.

Do you think we are all guilty of moving our moral judgement on things if it involves someone/thing we like or respect? Such as keeping an active account on X (feeding Elon's hate bubble) or supporting a person who uses substack (despite it platforming nazis)? How much grey do you allow?

It would be peak PL behaviour for Chelsea, also proven cheaters, to demand compensation from City.

It's bonkers we had these lot and Chelsea blatantly cheating at the same time. The PL have to hit them hard – fines don't count for state clubs – otherwise this whole process devalues the entire competition for nothing. 100 point deduction minimum as they are Centurions after all.

Not including the one I sporadically appear on.. I actually don't listen to any other Spurs-centric podcasts. There isn't a lot I want to relive at the moment. Watching it is enough, chatting about it once is enough, soon followed by pretending it never happened. Hopefully this changes soon!

Think it's just as worrying our wingers can't beat their man going on the outside and instead run into a mass of bodies and turn over possession, which hurts as our full backs push high. And whoever plays as striker, can't hold onto the ball or make a run in behind.
