Super Mario Sunshine is surprisingly more realistic than later Mario games in one specific aspect: here, Mario will start drowning if he hangs on to a ledge in such a way that water is flowing into his nose and mouth, as one would in real life.

Observe Mario holding on to a ledge that water is flowing over in Super Mario Galaxy (left) and Super Mario Odyssey (right). If realistic physics applied, he should start drowning since his nostrils and mouth are covered by water flowing into them.
However, in these games the air depletion/drowning state is tied to the swimming animation. As long as Mario is not visibly swimming, he cannot be drowning even if he is covered by water.
In Super Mario Sunshine, however, air depletion is decoupled from swimming as an action, allowing Mario to realistically start drowning in this situation (note him flashing red and his air meter depleting).
However, he is saved by Sunshine's (also unique among 3D Mario platformers) ledge tiredness mechanic. After hanging on for 20 seconds, Mario will let go. This is also realistic, since why would he let himself drown?

Gonna start asking couples, "So... Which one of you is the coyote and which one is the road runner?" Not because it's a euphemism for anything; I just wanna know who's out there making dangerous contraptions.

In 2025, I had this idea of crocheting a sleepy Shiny Ampharos and then experienced burnout which meant it sat for a year until I worked up the courage to start on little Rosita. She's unbelievably soft and snuggly! I hope y'all love her as much as I do!💖 #crochet #amigurumi #craftsky #shinypokemon

Shiron is renowned in kemono for being a hunky dragon stud, but I was surprised to learn that in the manga for Legendz he is a fat orb creature with tiny arms and legs.

Say hello to the Common House Harrier These little guys are about hamster sized and often find themselves inside pantries and start eating whatever they can find. Many find them invasive but also can't bring themselves to get rid of them due to their natural chubby cuteness
