A friend recently hit me up for some book recommendations on inking comics. Here are three of my favorites. #fyp #capcut #inking #drawingcomics #comics www.instagram.com/reel/DZ7ZS2J...

I consider myself as a lifelong student--especially of comics--so whenever I'm asked to do a lecture, panel, or workshop, I feel really unqualified. In unrelated news, I'll be holding three panels at Florida Supercon this year

I guess I'm gonna have to write this script one day at a time. Comic writers, how much can you write in a day, and how long does it take you to do it?

Hey, #comics friends and X haters, I just posted this in Instagram. Please feel free to like and share if you're still over there so we can defeat the algo and get it seen! THANK YOU!!! www.instagram.com/p/DYSQjo8ES4U/

Graphic in yellow, black and white:

Hey, fellow comics creators! In my opinion, Elon Musk's X is monumentally bad for all of us and the whole world.

NO COMICS ON X

Please consider never posting on that site again.

I know, Instagram is also bad, but not AS bad. And we gotta start somewhere!

I'm on Bluesky, which isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better. I'll boost you there if you're a mutual. Lemme know!

⚫⚪Black & White or 🎨Color? I got these samples back of some new premium prints with spot-raised UV ink over my ink lines. There's also metallic silver ink on Diana's sword, breastplate and tiara. What do you think? Shout out to Dean at Googleplex Collectibles for these beautiful prints!

One of the highlights of my weekend at Emerald City Comic Con was selling my inks of Denys Cowan's amazing Absolute Wonder Woman Annual #1 cover. I can't express enough how much I appreciate the opportunity to work with Denys. Now if he could ink *me* on something I could die happy. (Yeah, right!)🤣

As TOS Trekkies/Trekkers, today's THREADS OF DESTINY one-shot from Stephanie Williams, Gregory Maldonado, Anthony Fowler Jr & Charlie Kirchoff was a thrilling treat, supplying a magical meta Nichelle Nichols moment & delivering an episode we should have gotten in 1966. #NCBD

I really wish I had the skill for ceramics. I love working with Clay but I'm just no good at it. 😅

Definitely had fun with this one! Thanks to the great Denys Cowan for the pencils and the excellent Francesco Segala for hooking up the colors!

I'm an artist. Period. Not just a "Black artist"--as proud as I am to be that. I contain multitudes.

040

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 16/01/2026

And let me stress this: I WANT to work on Black characters. I WANT to contribute to as much positive Black representation as I can. It isn't--and shouldn't be--an either/or proposition to work on either regular titles or so-called "Black books".

130

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 16/01/2026

Representation is important: it's a big part of why I'm here. I love working on Black characters and books, and I figure I'll be doing so for the rest of my career. But there's nothing that limits me from working on ANY title. My skill set works no matter what you throw at me.

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 16/01/2026

I appreciate all the opportunities I've been afforded in this industry. Truly. I'm incredibly grateful. But--and I say this carefully and with all due respect--PLEASE don't just hire me for/during Black History Month.

The only validation I look for is the approval of my collaborators, colleagues and those who appreciate the craft. So whether I'm working with Greg Maldonado, Daimon Hampton Charles Stewart III, Denys Cowan, Sean Hill or anyone else, I try to let them sing the lead while I hold down the melody.

000

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 30/10/2025

In a broader sense, it's my job to make the penciler look good. If I'm doing my job right I'm invisible; I help to bring harmony to the art. If I'm doing too much it's like someone singing out of tune.

100

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 30/10/2025

The inker's role is to finalize the line art before it goes to color. I help to separate fore/middle/background and add textures, shadows, and line weights to the existing art to both make coloring easier and enhance the comic book aesthetic.

This scene (from The Temptations TV movie) lives rent-free in my head. So much so that it affects my approach to my comics career.

110

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 21/10/2025

Soft skills like time management, customer service, communication, conflict resolution, etc. are still applicable in your comics career. Timeliness is essential even if you don't punch a clock, and customer service/effective communication is helpful even if you don't deal directly with the public.

So technically, the Heartless do have hearts but no bodies, and Nobodies have bodies, but lack hearts. I can't imagine why people think the lore of the series is confusing. #KingdomHearts

If no one else tells you this, allow me: the satisfaction of being skilled enough to get professional level work is fleeting and unfulfilling. To put it in simpler terms, there's a difference between *good enough* and *good*.

020

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 06/07/2025

It's not because I don't think I produce professional work (I do), that I'm not good enough (I am), or that I'm one of the worst artists out there (I'm not). It's because I'm reaching for a higher level of competence and mastery. I see the gulf between myself and the work I study and respect.

121

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 06/07/2025

When people ask what I think about my own work, they're usually surprised at how negative or apathetic I am about it.

110

Anthony Fowler Jr. @afowlerart.com · 12/06/2025

Not to throw shade on how anyone else operates, but I wouldn't feel right launching a Kickstarter for my book before at least 75% of the comic is done. #comics #crowdfunding #kickstarter

This is a reminder not to take histrionic, knee-jerk reactions to superhero films seriously. Especially if it hasn't come out yet. Wait until you can see the film and watch it for yourself. If you don't like it, don't watch it--but more importantly, let others have a chance to judge for themselves.
