Protest in New York City. A small child was in the car when they shot into it.

He's running for governor in New York.

The Republican candidate for governor of New York. He's one of the small handful of Republican candidates or office holders willing to attend this debacle. An assortment of others cited things like setting up local festivals and - so help me - dinner with a friend as conflicts.

I want more shows like Parts Unknown and High on the Hog and Taste the Nation; I want fully unscripted documentary shows about food and culture. I'm so sick and tired of faux reality bullshit that I could spit

They bike in Manhattan, but I walked to the stores there, and took transit to work. They don't in Raleigh, where I had to drive. I can't speak for other places, but I'd guess it's much the same - delivery people don't need to drive in places the residents don't, either. But most people do.

The US has carefully built a culture in which, without gas, most people cannot go to work, shop for food, take their children to school, attend religious services or other community activities. (Delivery apps require other individuals - not corporations - to access gas...) Yes, it is vital.

Fascists love pageantry and performative acts more than they love the actual thing. They want a powerful military, but are unprepared for battles. They want traditional households but are unwilling to be partners. They demand purity but are incapable of constraint.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

Oh, yes. My dad had polio, and walked with canes. Most of his life there were no curb cuts, handicapped entrances - or ADA- so not using wheels was crucial to his ability to get around. And later, steep ramps with no handrails were his nightmare, especially in the rain.

And the whole idea is that, if they cooperate, it will be good for them. We'll come back! If we won't, why (from a business perspective) should they do the right thing?

I finally remembered my job, and made it summer outside the window again. He can sleep now, in the sun, with the scent of grass on the breeze. He's in for a disappointment when it gets cold again tomorrow - but today, bliss. #cat
A gray tabby cat curled up on his cat tree just inside the window, sound asleep.

When everyone is a priority, no one is a priority. That means that Mullin and ICE are going to treat a murderer who just got here with the same level of priority as a guy who’s been here for 25 years raising a family and living like a saint. That’s bad for so many reasons.

Some 15 years ago an online friend in Arizona carefully explained to me that I just didn't understand what immigration was like, with people of other cultures around you. I lived in New York City. In Washington Heights. But see, to me it was normal, to her, strange and threatening. And that's it.

If anything I'd say men are more apt to screw in lightbulbs. Well, ok - my husband was 8" taller than I was, so he did all the tasks that involved reaching up. Not everyone has such a strong height difference, so maybe not...

Oh, come on. Every one of us who was in NYC - especially in Manhattan - remembers that day in detail. As do many others, of course, but we all had a certain urgency... And while I agree he was not worrying about friends, or whether he could get home, he was concerned about his property. Priority!

This is a big deal. @govpritzker.illinois.gov's Republican predecessor put the state's finances in the crapper. Pritzker has invested heavily in the state's people and infrastructure AND restored its fiscal stability. No small feat.

Yeah, I worked in daycare. So many don't understand why we can't work from 9-5, or at least why people can't just be paid as if we did. We were open 7:30 to 6:30, which needed overlapping shifts... and a lot of people.

The value of Graham Platner is that right up until all his red flags came toppling down upon him is that he is the most naked example of the amount of grace & credibility Simply Being White grants you. Compared to Abdul El-Sayed, who has to re-earn every ounce of credibility he has on a daily basis.

It's actually less than that! Overstaying a visa is not a crime, but speeding and jaywalking are. It's a civil violation, which is why the penalty can't be imprisonment or fines. Or shouldn't be, though they've created this detention camp loophole like fascists do.

A hospital with a Sabbath elevator may also have a Sabbath door - plain old fashioned one you just push open. I think I remember one doubling as the Emergency Exit. Tom later was himself in a hospital in Brooklyn with a largely Orthodox patient base and staff. I learned things...

Well, my brother worked security at NYU medical center, so I have it on good authority that, when he was at the desk, people would walk right up and ask him to wave at the sensor to open the doors to go out... He worked nights, so these would not have been casual visitors. Dispensation in crisis?

A massive crisis is developing in the west over dwindling water. You are going to hear a lot of bullshit. Just remember this: The solution is to stop growing animal feed & vegetables in the desert. That’s it. That’s all we have to do. Just grow stuff that needs water where it rains on the regular.
