Like her previous film, MUSIC, Angela Schanelec’s MY WIFE CRIES leans heavily on a climactic sequence of musical performance. The difference is this time it’s the best thing in the film (or any recent film?) instead of the worst

I adored Nicolás Pereda’s EVERYTHING ELSE IS NOISE. Delightful formal play with a variety of cameras and sound recordings, compositions and performances on and off screen, and also it’s hilarious (I laughed out loud more than during anything else I’ve watched this year)

Been catching up on a bunch of this year’s Americana/alt country songwriter albums. Anna Tivel is the best of them, SG Goodman and Greg Freeman also good, Lily Seabird pretty decent. Kelsey Waldon and Sunny Sweeney do the job if you want straight country
