Nice are they here today? We're on the way ...

I wouldn't be proud of the code it produces, but as long as it is only test code or does not need specific optimizations, I have no motivation to fix this. You have to check every output though for correctness.

As with all tools, the outcome very much depends on who uses the tool. I find it amazing that Claude can write 6502 assembly as well as VHDL, and gemini can even do schematics.

Personally I won't be able to sell items. But the goal is to make it as easy as possible to get 'almost' ready parts from a PCB manufacturer and the rest of the parts from some parts provider. I have about 80% of the parts assembled by a board house at this time, goal is to get >95%.

It's not 'the first book of kim' as I recall it exists, but the original manual. It's a reprint organized by a member of the German forum forum.classic-computing.de , only those three were reprinted

I think it would be interesting to investigate if, in the absence of external drives, instead of slowing down the C64, speeding up the drive instead would be possible

Bitman6502 @afachat.bsky.social · 05/02/2026
I know. But I am building my own FPGA based Commodore PET replica. So, I think it could have been done. I accept if there is a technical reason I don't know, but just 'that's because it was like that' doesn't cut it for me.

Ah well. The VICE emulator - all software though - speeds up the C64 _and_ the disk drive(s) at the same time in warp mode.

Not to spoil the fun - but the VICE emulator speeds up the C64 _and_ the floppy drive in warp mode. Which is very convenient

Bitman6502 @afachat.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
@commodoreofficial.bsky.social I was wondering, if I speed up the C64 to say 64 MHz, it seems the 1541 emulation is not sped up, but instead the whole machine falls back to the original speed when accessing the disk. Is that intentional? Will that change? Thanks

caching changes is basically tracking deltas (if you don't want to compare the whole model on save - that depends on the model size) and a difference only comes in if consecutive changes affect the same parts of the model.2/2
010
Bitman6502 @afachat.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
That's another option. You need to weigh in the size of the model, the total runtime, the number of changes per runtime, and how many changes affect the same part of the model. The latter is probably the most important. 1/2
210
Bitman6502 @afachat.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
If you have a deterministic model, you only need to save the changes to it in case you do changes. Might be much less data, possibly depending on the amount of erosion. But probably better to compress anyway

I love the 6502. You can just look at the code and understand it. (Except for all the weird branching modes, but that's it's own thing) And hooking it up to hardware? Slap a buffer between it and your other chips and it'll just talk to them. To the 6502, everything is a memory location.

Actually just know how to build logic circuits from logic equations and registers. And then you just need to learn the formalisms like syntax

Bitman6502 @afachat.bsky.social · 25/07/2025
Basically VHDL is a way to describe logic equations and registers - basic logic stuff. And most of my VHDL is just like that. The rest is compiler magic
