Le Chonk is here 🐱 Mistral's Large 4 is a 1 trillion parameter model trained in its own European data centres, with open weights coming on 27 October. Looking at the benchmarks, it's up there with the best open models. It even does a bit better than GPT-6 Astra on some aspects. Bien joué, Mistral !

COD back on Nintendo. This was expected since the $69bn buyout, but it is still a huge development. Crossplay makes tons of sense given how unproven the demand is for this type of game on Nintendo. Curious what the appeal ends up being for Nintendo players.

Everyone is quoting the same number from the new Steam revenue report: the median game earns $3,631 in its lifetime. Grim, sure. But the figure that actually stopped me sits further down the page. Steam's Gini coefficient is 0.984.

Everyone's sharing the Sega and Nvidia story as a nice anecdote. It's harsher than that. Nvidia almost died in 1995 for backing the wrong way of drawing 3D graphics. Microsoft backed the other way, everyone followed Microsoft.

20 years in games and the thing that still annoys me most is how amateur competitive play actually works. Screenshot the result. Argue about it. Trust a stranger. Repeat. That's the problem we're testing a fix for this week, and I want players to break it.
