aecnyc.bsky.social @aecnyc.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Read this over the weekend. Enjoyed (some wonderful lines) but it could have used an edit. And I did guess who did it. But I’ve also started looking for her other stuff. 110
aecnyc.bsky.social @aecnyc.bsky.social · 09/06/2026I won’t say the George Cross books necessarily get a lot better, but there is some decent character development and moments of real humor (including some work place comeback lines worth stealing). 130
aecnyc.bsky.social @aecnyc.bsky.social · 04/06/2026I read all of them—except Maigret on the Defensive—over the first year of my retirement, and have reread many of them since. Highly recommend the Rupert Davies series, as well as the French version with Bruno Cremer (altho that one sort jumps the shark in the last few years). 110

aecnyc.bsky.social @aecnyc.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Well, this was fun. Immediately pulled my copy which is called “The Bar on the Seine.” One of my favorites, about 10th of 70, with Simenon still feeling out how his character works. Check out the 1962 BBC adaptation of this book in the series starring Rupert Davies. 110
