Eury pulled a comb from their pocket, a lovely thing they found at the markets earlier; coral, gleaming in the golden pink blush of dawn. They began with the tips and slowly worked the comb through Mnemosyne's hair. The fine teeth found the knots that their fingers had so easily skimmed over. They took their time with each snag, carefully unwinding the offending strands as though each a puzzle they must solve without breaking. The night was heady with Mnemosyne's presence and they would drink of it as deeply as she would permit.

"How long has it been?" They whispered the question and did not expect an answer.

That she had once been free to live and love this star and its peoples, that she had found true joy not in service to one but in aiding every soul that she met. She had forgotten she was a shepherd, a guide to the lost and those who sought their way. She had forgotten that she was Azem, the Fourteenth Seat.

Of all she had 'forgotten', this miserable sod hardly merited a place.

The grasses bowed beneath his steps and flowers whispered as white robes brushed past them. Even in this place brimming with natural life, a soul such as his could never go unnoticed. She made no particular effort to seek him out. If the Emissary was here, it meant a single thing. He had a task for her. She could think of no other reason; Halmarut did not make a habit of spending time with the upper echelons of their newly formed convocation, nor did the unsundered seem to pay their fractured colleagues as much mind. She did not begrudge them this. She must be a painful reminder to look upon. Though her own memories of the past had been restored, still were they but shards of who they had once been. To her, the ancient days were a more distant thing; to them she could only imagine it as fresh as the rains that fell yesterday.$
